This, the third installment in the Mother Runner "series," is similar to the others in some features, but where it departs is where it also shines. I loved the first two for the quirky, tongue-in-cheek tone as much as for the useful advice. This one still has the funny and touching themed quote sections from "Other Mother Runners," which provide comic relief and break up the sections. The essays that comprise the bulk of the book are wonderful. They are funny, or touching, or powerful, or empowering. They are, above all, relatable. Some of these women have done extraordinary things (as we all have, when you think about it!), but inside, they are all like the rest of the tribe of Mother Runners. We are all doing our best to be our best- for our families and for ourselves. Great lessons and reminders in the pages of this book.

As an absolute fan and member of the BAMR tribe, this book was the PERFECT episode to complete the trilogy. On the first book by Sarah and Dim, I fell in love with running and became a part of a tribe. With the second one, I excelled and worked hard with their training plans to get stronger, go farther and fastest. I even join Dimity and Sarah to run a Ragnar Race with a team of other fellow BAMRs... with the third one, it all came to full circle and I was able to share the stories, tears and laughter of the tribe they have put together that makes us all Bad Ass Mother Runners have a purpose and a place where we belong. where we can cure any heartache and worry with a mile, or twenty, and where a PR is one of the biggest achievements we can have as women, same as we hit milestones with our kids or our marriage. this book gave me incessant laughter and tears. It made me feel joy and pain. Page by page, story by story...mile by mile.... You should not only read this book but the 2 before this one. Cannot wait for the audoibook.... I am training for the Berlin Marathon in September and it will be perfect companion for my long runs over the summer!

I have been looking forward to the release of this book for months. I've been a fan of Dimity and Sarah since the release of their first book. I am Badass Mother Runner. I've listened to the teasers via podcasts on long runs. I was not disappointed. This book was inspiring, motivating and funny. I found Dimity's essay one the most touching and one of my favorite essays of the book. Even finishing the book a few days ago I am still thinking of her powerful essay. Each essay different, I related to some more than others but all were entertaining and thought provoking. "A Ghost Story" by Marit Fischer spoke to me as I just lost my father-in-law a year ago and miss him so much. I run alone and find my time running is my church, my place to reflect and enter a meditative space where such visits do occur. I also loved Michelle Theall's essay "Up Down Escalator." I know the devastating course of Multiple Sclerosis first hand as my mother has MS. I often think about her and how thankful I am to be able to run, bike and swim. Michelle Theall's essay was honest, touching and brought tears to my eyes as I read. Not a fan of Dimity and Sarah...yet. Never head of Another Mother Runner. Don't know what a BAMR is. That is okay. Once you read this you will be a fan. Welcome to the tribe.

This book is a well-written collection of essays from Mother Runners across the country who have joined the Another Mother tribe. Whether you are an aspiring runner thinking about joining a Couch to 5k group, a newish runner training for your first big race, or an experienced runner looking for some new motivation, this book is for you. You will find touching tales of running through depression, marital difficulties, grief and illness. You will also laugh along with stories of what it's like to run a race naked, how to respond to someone who dares to call you a "jogger" and many TMI (too much information) tidbits that we can all relate to. This is a great easy read that you can treat yourself to, and while you're at it, pick up a couple extra copies for your BRF's (best running friends). They will love you (even more) for it!

I love the books Run Like A Mother and Train Like A Mother so I new I had to have Dimity and Sarah's third book, Tales From Another Mother Runner. And I was not disappointed. No matter if you are a mother or not a mother or NOT a runner and want to be or you have run several marathons, this book and this series is for you. I can honestly say that if I would not have found these books and the large community of runner mothers, I would not be still running after starting 3 years ago. I have never stopped training for a race since the first page! I am now training for my 2nd full marathon using Train Like A Mother Finish It Training Plan. With my running partner living 2 hours away, we train separately but on race day we stick together, I do most of my training runs listening to the Another Mother Runner Podcasts for good advice and girl company. In short I thought I was buying a book and what I actually got was a New Family! A Family of Thousands of mother runners just like me!

Short and sweet! As mother runners I am sure many of you don't have time to read a long review! All women who lace up and run need a copy of Tales from Another Mother Runner and the additional two books in this unofficial trilogy! The books are lighthearted, funny, and packed full for information for all female runners. What I love most is Dimity and Sarah, write about "real life running" as a woman or mother. Subjects way too taboo for typical running publications. I stumbled upon their original book Run like a Mother when it was first published on amazon. I loved it so much I read it slow as I did not want the book to be over. Sounds crazy but it was true. I was thrilled to learn that Sarah and Dimity continue you the fun with their lively AnothermotherRunner.com web site and social media accounts. I am so proud to be a part of this tribe. I have established relationships with fellow mother runners all across the country! This book will not disappoint...or the other two books. Purchase them all today. If you purchase one fashion book this holiday season - or indeed this decade - let it be Fashion: A Timeline in Photographs. Milbank captures the essence of each year beginning in 1850, with a collection of images that each has something specific and illuminating to tell us about that particular moment in time. Her fresh observations about the evolution of the silhouette, accessories, innovations in textiles and technology, and what that all means for the changing role of women as expressed in the fashion of the time keep the reader flipping back to the rich trove of footnotes over and over again for more details. In fact, my only suggestion to her editor would have been to incorporate more of that information in the text for each year. As compelling from an anthropological and historical standpoint as it is beautiful, you will understand your mother and grandmother and therefore yourself, better after reading this book. Don’t delay!

Imagine how heartbreaking it is… when you order a book you want to read 6-7 months before it’s to be officially released… then for some unknown reason it is delayed… without explanation… for weeks upon weeks… upon weeks. Then when you finally receive the book… you can’t even make it to the “beginning”… of the first chapter without there being a major mistake. On the fourth page of the INTRODUCTION… the author in referencing the Los Angeles Lakers team facing the Portland Jail Blazers (i.e. Trail Blazers) in the 2000 Western Conference NBA finals… states “The Lakers advanced to the NBA Finals, where they disposed of the Indiana Pacers in six games to claim their first championship since 1991.” The last time the Lakers had won the NBA Championship was 1988… not 1991! And that’s just the beginning of a seeming endless avalanche of mistakes and typos. Way too many to list here. But another one of note was on page 170… when the author states: “… high and mighty Lakers, led by unanimous league MVP Shaquille O’Neal”. That is incorrect! Though “SHAQ” should have been the unanimous choice… one wayward vote went to Allen Iverson. I don’t know who’s more to blame for the unprofessional editing… the writer or the publisher.Either way… it’s a shame… because many of the portions of this detailed reporting on the disastrous era of the Jail Blazer’s assault on human decency… along with the reputation of the city and the very NBA itself… is pretty interesting… in streaks… that is. Much of the book is reminiscent of old-time sports broadcasting before TV and cable… where an announcer is simply reading ticker tape and box scores. Much of the history is done in this manner… which is not artistically exhilarating in the least. The strongest parts of the book are where the author interviews the many subjects… a decade or more after the fact… after time… and maturity… have both passed and increased. As a lifetime NBA fan I was very aware of the nauseating behavior time… after time… and yes… after time… AND… again… of many members of the Jail Blazers… but not in such detail as is provided here. I also wasn’t aware of how far over the salary cap… and over the luxury caps… the Blazers were… all while never winning a championship during this portion of their existence. It is amazing how they just inhaled millions upon millions of dollars out of billionaire Paul Allen’s wallet.Of the many Jail Blazer… players… coaches… executives… and owners…. who were rightfully thrown under the bus… the one who was thrown under the bus… under the train… under the steamroller… under the La Brea tar pits… and under the ocean with cement shoes… was Bob Whitsitt...“For a decade, Whitsitt had made changes every season, using owner Paul Allen’s considerable wealth to stockpile talent and chase the elusive NBA Finals berth he had never attained in 18 seasons as a general manager. Much of that talent had exuded questionable character, casting a shadow on the franchise in the eyes of the community.”(This next statement of fact is so unbelievable… and to me summarizes the whole embarrassment and insult on the word integrity… that to me is synonymous… with the stain on basketball that was known as the “The Jail Blazers”… that I must put it all in capitals!)“THROUGH THE 2002-03 SEASON, THE LONGEST STRETCH WHERE A PLAYER WASN’T ARRESTED, SUSPENDED BY THE LEAGUE OR TEAM, OR THE POLICE WEREN’T CALLED TO SOMEONE’S HOME WAS 17 DAYS.”Let me ask you a question… have you ever watched a movie where every single person smoked the whole movie… and it was so disgusting that by the end of the movie you didn’t even want to be in the same country as someone that smokes… have you ever watched a movie where the main characters… never stopped drinking and getting drunk… without ever stopping for a second… and even if you normally like to drink a few beers… you don’t even want to see a beer commercial for a month after watching the movie???Well… after reading this book… you are nauseated beyond description when it comes to Rasheed Wallace and technical fouls… when it comes to J.R. Rider… and stupid insane life decisions… non-managerial logic by Dunleavy and Cheeks… and Carlesimo… asinine drug maneuvers and arrests by Stoudamire and Wallace… and half the roster… boorish actions and words by Bonzi Wells… criminal behavior by Ruben Patterson… and 2/3 of the other Jail Blazers… and more missed practices than any team… in any sport… in history…I could go on and on… but I’ve had enough… 500 pages of this… in descriptions mimicking a teletype report… and yet I wanted to give this a four star rating… just because of the after-the-fact interviews… but then as sure as the sun rises in the morning… trickling down like salt from a spilled shaker… more typos.P.S. Bob Whitsitt “never studied chemistry in college.”P.S.S. The quote in my review title is from Steve Kerr.

Enjoyed reliving the "glory" days of the Jailblazers, and the post mortem interviews with former players and coaches (like Steve Kerr) added interesting insight. Fun, fast read.

It didn't do much more than compile the previously-known stuff into a book. The stories are good, but this would mostly be appealing for those who weren't following the NBA when this all went on.

It was a fantastic read. Brought back a lot of memories, both good and bad, about a time and which I really enjoyed it blazer basketball.

This is a first pass. I may revisit after some time.I grew up in Oregon rooting for the Blazers- as a kid watching Clyde, Terry, Jerome, Buck, and Duck- to present day Dame Lillard and company. I enjoy Kerry Eggers' descriptive writing style and believe he's pretty level-headed for a sports writer. Eggers continues to produce quality work for the Portland Tribune. Because this book doesn't have a coherent thesis, my review is more of a Blazers history blog that a chapter-by-chapter recap.Here are the issues I have with this book:1. The title. "Jail Blazers" is clearly an attempt to grab attention with the great nickname and generate sales. Any criminal activity with the team was limited to a few significant instances. The subtitle "of Badboys" is weak because the Blazers under study were not tough-minded like the Detroit Pistons featuring Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer. Blazers like Telfair and Woods were more real-life gangsters than the badboys who managed to win a title between the Bulls and Lakers dynasties.2. The organization of the book is mostly a linear compilation of news articles with anecdotes from famous figures such as Bill Walton or sportswriters like Peter Vecsey or Dwight Jaynes. At first, I was enjoying the trip down memory lane. However, this becomes tedious, and I highly doubt non-Blazer maniacs will stick through it. This book was clearly rushed to press for the holiday season. A skilled editor could work with Eggers to make life easier for the reader by organizing the tedium into tables, statistics, and graphics, and draw inferences. It doesn't take long for the reader to realize that Sheed Wallace had major workplace issues or that Isiah Rider was chronically tardy and entitled.3. My suggestion to the author is to plan a second revised edition. Maybe title it "Trail Blazers - Against the Odds: How a Rainy Small Market Team Nearly Shocked the World by Overcoming Incompetent Management, Autistic Billionaire Ownership and Crazy Bad Luck!"Much of the book's blame for the team's anti-social behavior is targeted at "Trader" Bob Whitset. I agree he appeared to be a corporate jerk who didn't care for his employees. Despite his numerous mistakes, it almost worked! Then there was "the collapse" and the rest is history. I wonder post-collapse what might have happened if they had retooled around Jermaine O'Neal and Damon Stoudamire, trading away Wallace and others who didn't like their jobs in Portland. I suppose if Whitset had even attempted to know his employees, then he might have made better decisions. It should be noted that two of the best present day head coaches were Portland assistants during the time covered by the book. Imagine if either of them had been selected instead of Mo Cheeks.I also take issue with blaming Whitset for the messy Clyde Drexler divorce. Clyde was traded to his hometown team Houston Rockets as a favor because the Blazers were rebuilding. Clyde turned his back on the Portland fans and Whitset was a convenient excuse.The late Mr. Allen was exasperated by the team's failures despite his generous financial support to the payroll and to the City of Portland. He nearly killed pro basketball in Portland. A new owner might have attempted to relocate the Blazers. To Allen's credit, he recognized the situation for what it was and recommitted with an emphasis on player character and team chemistry. Today fans can be proud of the team even if they aren't true contenders.There's a lot of good material in the book. I think a reorganized 2nd edition is needed to reach a wider audience. I'd enjoy hearing your comments reading the book fellow basketball fans.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in intersectionality and transnational feminisms. Alexander is brilliant. I particularly loved her chapter about her experience at the New School and how 'diversity' initiatives elide the real problem of social justice: "normative whiteness" or "eurocentricism" in so called liberal progressive schools like New School in her opinion.

This book is amazing. A canonical Black feminist text, and a must have for any feminist or Black studies student.

Not since the early 1980s has there been a book that literally takes one's breath away. Prof. Alexander's new volume is profoundly spiritual at the same time it's grounded in a unique materialist feminism. Its signifiance also lies in the book's manifestations of a real hope. Being alive and politically conscious in the first decade of the 21st century is to be easily seduced by despair, it is also to be absolutely at odds with terrible, counter revolutionary, antifeminist cultures. Not for Alexander glib, soggy liberalism but a spirit that is courageous and awe-inspiring. In the book's third section, Alexander writes of 'returning' to the magnificent anthology, 'This Bridge Called My Back' and, following this essay, the book's most thrilling chapter, in which the writer conjures a new life force, one thoroughly rooted in both spiritual and secular lifeworlds. As if this adjectival 'heap' of praise were not enough, Alexander's book render obsolete the common periodization of feminisms by 'wave'. It would not be innacurate to say that 'Pedagogies of Crossing' is a epistemic rupture, demanding its readers to again grapple with feminist legacies from an entirely new standpoint. If you've not heard Prof. Alexander speak, I suggest you do so as soon as possible. The impact of her spoken word 'appearances' powerful. Her lectures constitute an epistemological rupture, filling one with true hope.

I am a graduate student and bought the Kindle version of this book. It is unfortunately a waste of time. I am viewing this books with the Widdows 8 Kindle app and am unable to search within the text of the book. Also, the ''Table of Contents" button is not activated. Did I mention, that there are no page numbers. How on earth am I supposed to make proper citations and navigate through it? My suggestion to Amazon, I am reading a book for research and not chick lit for my amusement. Um... pages numbers, chapter headings, being able to search the text (those minor things that enable you to cite text properly) actually do matter!My suggestion to anyone who is using this book for research: DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION IF YOU ARE USING THE WINDOWS 8 KINDLE APP!Perhaps, I am not technologically savvy enough! If anyone has suggestions on how I may get my money's worth? Please, let me know.
