I have owned rats off and on for years. It had been a while and we were starting from scratch. I ordered this book as a good refresher for me and a handy resource for my daughter. This book is great! It has everything any rat owner would need, new or experienced. It is well formatted and just stuffed full of information. If you only get one book, get this one.

This is a wonderful book to keep in my classroom. The used condition rating held true as one page was cut out and the previous owner appeared to keep it under their rat cage (rat urine a seemed to be present, but it wiped off easily).

Great book. Informative and great even for kids. Used this book often as a guide. Must have for first time rat owners.

Nice guide.

This book is more from a scientific point of view. I found it very interesting to read about the differences and similarities between wild and pet rats. It also has a good chapter on food and what to feed them and why, which I found helpful and important. While this is not a book for a small child, it is good for those who are interested in not only the care and feeding for rats but also the scientific points about rats.I would recommend getting a few other rat books first though - I also enjoyed Rats: Complete Care Guide by Debbie Ducommun as well as Training Your Pet Rat (Training Your Pet Series) by Gerry Buscis. These books are far more detailed on caring for your pet rats.

Not a great book, but perfect for someone who's just starting out with pet rats. It covers all the basic stuff: caging, how to choose your rats, etc. but thats about it, and it has hardly any information on handling and socializing rats, or much on their health. I wouldn't pass this book up, but you should also consider a more detailed book if you really want the best for your pet rats.

#33,367 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I bought this book on Jan 20th during a particularly terrible migraine. I was quite desperate and stumbled across the Facebook group in a health forum. I have had migraines since I can remember, at least 5 years old. When my mom would take me to the dr they would tell her "just give her Tylenol" which never helped. It was a long time before I realized that most people aren't in pain most of the time. But except for six months after a car accident when I was in my 20's they would keep me home 4-5 times a month but I was still able to function. 3-4 years ago they started getting worse so I went to my dr. He threw a bunch of medicine at me and then said he couldn't do anything more. So I went to another dr, rinse and repeat until I was so frustrated (and missing so much work) that I referred myself to the USC pain center. I was then given nerve blocks, magnesium infusions, botox, SPG blocks, more and more and more medicine and none of it worked. I only got worse, until I have been off work for over a year and could barely take care of my 3 kids. At one time I would have been excited to be able to make dinner once a week, that is how bad it was. Constant pain, nausea, difficulty thinking, plus depression and anxiety until I didn't even know how I could go on. Then last October I tried the Keto diet and I felt a little better. I was able to at least participate in my life. On New Years Eve I had 1 piece of pizza and that was a mistake. All of my migraine symptoms came back and no matter how faithful I was to the diet I couldn't get relief. So in desperation in bed with an ice pack on my head and praying the triptans I took would work I found this book. This book is amazing, it is so simple and yet the difference in my life is something I can't even explain! It gave me my life back!!! I have not taken any medication since the day I found this book. I tried to understand it through my foggy head and started with the milk at night (I always would wake up with a migraine) and the salt and water (increasing my water slowly as suggested) and once I was feeling better started with the balancing of my sodium and potassium. I've been taking magnesium as well. I was already off of all sugar and grains. I have never in my life gone for 30 days without a full blown migraine. I have had prodrome but was always able to follow the steps in the book and take steps to abort the migraine before it happened.I am sooo grateful to Dr Stanton because she gave me my life back! She gave my husband his wife back and my kids their mother back! I don't have to spend my days in my dark bedroom praying I don't go through my 9 triptans before I can get a refill. I don't have to wonder if I should go to the emergency room because the pain is so unbearable. This book is the best thing I have ever read and I am so excited to be able to write this review. I wanted to wait until I was sure it was working so that I could write the most helpful review possible.I am also part of the Facebook group that Dr Stanton has and she is so helpful and kind. She and the other admins have done nothing but help me on this journey and I am so grateful!!!

I purchased this book during my 6th migraine of January 2016. This was around the time I realized that my *maybe*-once-a-month migraine had become a 3 - 4 times weekly occurrence. It was a desperate impulse buy. After I purchased, I continued reading reviews and immediately began regretting the decision - salt and water? Some of these folks think salt and water can cure a migraine?! Shoooooot - looks like another migraine book I'll be returning as soon as it arrives. Boy am I glad I decided to read the first few pages before doing so!Dr. Stanton has found the cause (and solution!) of migraine. Salt and water are only a tiny part of a much bigger picture. A year later, and The Stanton Migraine Protocol has me migraine free - even those once a month migraines are gone! I have 2 homeschooled children, and I can't explain what a gift it has been to take the migraine days out of our lives. I'm forever indebted to Dr. Stanton and her efforts, both in writing the book, and in the personal care she gives to every member of the correlating facebook group - Migraine Sufferers Who Want To Be Cured. Buy the book. Join the group. Reading is incredibly difficult with a migraine, so do it before your next one!!Update: January 2018 - Two years in, and I'm still migraine free.

For SEVEN years I suffered with almost daily migraines. I read every book/article I could. I listened to podcasts and attended virtual online seminars. I tried acupuncture. I meditated. I did Botox (that's 31 injections every 12 weeks). I abused Triptan medications because they allowed me to take care of my kids and perform my job. My kidneys were showing signs of damage from over-use of Motrin. I hit the ground so low that a couple of times a year, I wondered if life was even worth living anymore. Every day had suffering to some degree. This book, this author, was a LIFE SAVER. The solution is not easy, but I cannot begin to tell you how it has made a difference in my life. A migraine still creeps in now and then, but it's when I make mistakes (still working on that). This book will help you to understand the physiological difference between people with "migraine brains" and what we need to keep them quiet. And I am here to tell you it IS possible. After reading the book, the author leads an amazingly supportive Facebook group so you can ask question to the members. It took me quite some time to understand it all, and I can't say I still have it 100% down, but the changes in my body are nothing short of a miracle. Angela Stanton is my angel. She has given me personally (and I don't even know her) so much support for my path. Where on earth do you come across an individual that does that without asking for something in return? She and this book are a lifesavers. Please consider this book/group/path if you suffer the way I did.

Dr. Angela Stanton is a lifesaver. She truly cares about migraineurs who are suffering and dedicates her work to making sure they know the truth. What she is doing is game-changing. For too long the medical field only focused on medicating and not truly understanding. I have had migraines for decades (since a child) and have not received any advice that was truly effective, until I discovered Dr. Stanton and this book. What is too often overlooked is that, treatment with harsh migraine medications, the body is worn-down. Dr. Stanton not only cares about quality of life and length of life of people with real lives and families, but she clearly lays out how it is possible--and it works! She deserves the highest respect and recognition for her work. Anyone with migraines or those who know of friends or family or co-workers with migraines would be crazy not to get this book and several copies. Every practitioner in the medical field should also be required to read!

A very informative work, could feel her experience like you were going through it with her. Surprising that those who tormented her with the racial slurs themselves are the most vocal and loud to call others racists but have no empathy for others and torment and bully....being poor does not and should not make people cruel....to leave China to come to this great country and have to experience what she did was a shame but her inner strength and resolve , she got through it and became a success...well written

Among other things, this book surely demonstrates the extent of black racism against Asians. Throughout elementary school and high school, the author witnesses horrific behavior and is a victim of it herself. She grows accustomed (?) to being taunted as "Ching Chong" and "Chinaman," and witnesses other incidents which turn into beatings. Outside of school, in the ghetto, these beatings become robberies and sometimes murder.I am quite sure this tale is not a fantasy. I used to live in San Francisco with a friend from S.E. Asia. He had a wonderful Taiwanese friend. They were attacked by four black gangstas, who stole the Taiwanese boy's umbrella, beat him with it, and then ran off laughing.Black racism does not end there. Black hatred of whites has been documented in "White Girl Bleed a Lot" (5th Edition): The return of racial violence and how the media ignore it.Yet the "current wisdom" says that the word "racist" may only be used against white people, and we have seen a general orgy of that over the recent Trayvon Martin case.Perhaps the "current wisdom" should consider the words of another man:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.--Matthew 7:1-5 KJVIn any case, the book is finally inspiring. Due to talent and plenty of hard work, the author makes it to Cornell, and then Stanford Law School, and is now pursuing a successful career as a lawyer. She was able to buy a home for her parents, far from the ghetto, and they now live and garden in peace. This is a short, sad, but inspiring read.

Author Ying Ma is a few years of my junior. Her memoir about her childhood in late 70s early 80s mainland China brought back many of my own memories. But what made her book profoundly meaningful is the fact she landed in American Ghetto, transformed her from a typical good girl to a bitter, angry and confrontational teenager. She did not find her freedom that American Dream promised until she struggled out of the Oakland Ghetto which showed a little girl the darkness, hatred and ugliness somewhat unique to American poverty.I landed in a beautiful campus of upstate NY. my American experience was bright, full of hope and reward for most part. My experience of darkness in America came as a shock in a totally different form as Ying’s Ghetto experience. But what this book conveyed is exactly this: you don’t come to America to be free automatically (though I thought so for so many years). American freedom is that no mater how ugly and seemingly hopeless your American experience is, there is an opportunity that ordinary individual can grasp and may break free. That, is still a big promise worth all the effort in this journey. That, is what we need to try very hard to preserve

A Chinese girl moves to the United States and finds the American Dream is fraught with difficulties. Growing up in the San Francisco area, she finds that some American kids are not very welcoming, stealing her belongings and backstabbing her socially. Her experiences in the ghetto leave her with a bitter taste and yet she triumphs over her disappointments to attend a prestigious university and craft a meaningful career, gradually coming to respect the things that America does correctly. The tone of this book could easily have turned sour but Ying Ma's prose is comfortably readable, illuminating the "outsider's" experience of assimilating into a drastically different culture. She crafts an engrossing story around the facts of her personal experience which draw the reader in; I found myself wanting to apologize to her for the crappy treatment she received as a child at the hands of her new peers. Highly recommended!

A relatively advantaged family in a country where advantaged may mean simply two rooms for a family of six immigrates to America. There the parents, who had been respected professionals become sub-minimum wage workers at the bottom of the heap of poverty. Told from the perspective of a ten year-old girl, the social and soul deadening effects of poverty and discrimination are seen through the eyes of the Chinese immigrant. This book is both brutally frank and infinitely readable. It offers a perspective rarely seen because the Chinese do not public ally self identify as victims. It takes courage to point out the elephant in the room. Ying Ma is more than just a courageous writer. She is immensely talented. This book is a treasure.

This is a riveting book revealing the raw emotions of abuse and poverty from China to Oakland, CA. The inherent self determination of the author is molded through her struggles at many levels of her life—at home, in school and later university and law school, and ultimately in her career. What a marvelous insight into the Asian culture that balances acceptance with hard work and perseverance to achieve. Family loyalty and support was the core of her support along with infrequent but significant mentors. This is a must read for all who need a reminder of what it means to be poor in America and maintain a goal to carve out a better life.

This is the first Nancy Warren book I have read. It just looked interesting. I read witch paranormal cozies and sometimes they blend together but this is a standout. I have never been to the UK but as I followed young American witch Lucy around Oxford, it felt like a real tour! Her writing is descriptive without slowing the story. This a first of series and a great beginning seeing how much the author has to work in. Lucy came from her archeologist parent's dig site in Egypt to seek her grandmother's advice, only to find her grandmother had died three weeks previous and no one had been able to reach her family. From there, she ends up running a knitting shop -- and she can't knit-- and discovering she lives above a " nest of vampires"and maybe Gramma is only soft of gone. There are a whole host of characters in this including other shop owners, property developers, students, vampires , police , and a murderer. Great light read.

I liked the idea of a vampire knitting club and decided to buy a copy of this book. It sounded like a fun paranormal cozy mystery book and that's exactly what it was. It mostly was a fun read, but it failed to fully grab my attention. And it was one of those books where there were lots of little things that didn't quite work for me and they just add up.The story follows Lucy, who is in her late twenties and isn't sure what to do with her life. When she is visiting her grandma in Oxford she discovers her grandam died weeks ago and they weren't able to reach her as she was on an archeological dig site with her parents. Then it turns out her grandma is actually undead now, but was almost murdered before a vampire saved her. And Lucy gets the knitting shop. Lucy has to decide what to do with her life, deal with multiple changes and new things she learns about herself and the world and solve a murder.I liked the set-up of this book, it read like a typical cozy mystery and I was curious how the paranormal would play a role. There are some likable side characters and also some less likable ones. It does very much read like a first book in the series with so many elements getting introduced that it felt like the mystery got solved a bit quickly. I had some issues with little things that didn't make sense, were too convenient or weren't explained enough to get a good feel for it. I think those are mostly because this is the first book in the series. I hope the rest of the series is better, but I am not sure if I'll continue the series. This book has all the typical elements you expect in a cozy mystery, the main character returns to a place she often visits with fond memories, has to decide whether to leave or stay, discover herself in the process and has to solve a mystery. Then it has some typical paranormal elements thrown in, involving a mysterious character who is cold to the touch, walks around at night and pops up in the shop while the door is locked. Things that don't add up and paranormal elements are the only explanation. At times it felt like all the tropes and clichés from both genres were stuffed in this book and it just felt a bit much. And then there is also a set-up for a possible love triangle. The mystery was a bit slow to get going with Lucy first having to find out her grandma is dead, then learn her grandma is actually undead and only then finds out her grandma was almost murdered before being saved by a vampire. So the mystery only starts in earnest quite late in the book and there isn't much investigating. Most of the mystery solving sort of happens to her, not because she figures it out, but because the killer comes back. I wasn't too surprised when we find out who the murderer is, but that's mostly because there are very few suspects and only a few possible motives. There also is a plot line related to break-ins and whether that's connected or not. I liked the way things got resolved at the end.Lucy was a nice enough main character, but somehow I never fully warmed up to her. She didn't really have any particular personality traits that stood out or called to me or made her likable. She seemed a bit bland at times. I liked how sometimes she could be very smart with how she handled things, but then other times she acted almost stupid. It felt very contradictory. There is little we learn about vampires and witches and the rest of the supernatural world in this book. It's very limited and because the story has to move along, I felt like sometimes we didn't get enough answers and Lucy didn't ask all the questions. Sometimes she assumed things without checking, but besides that there just was very little the vampires tell her besides the few basics. It also bothered me how her grandma forgot the last few weeks of her life, which just seemed too convenient. To summarize: while I liked the fun setup of this book and idea of a vampire knitting club, the book failed to fully pull me in. This book has all the typical elements of a cozy mystery and paranormal elements and at times it almost felt too much. Lucy was a nice enough character, but without any personality traits that made her stand out. She could be very smart at times and almost stupid at other times, which felt very contradictory. The mystery only started pretty late in the story, with very few suspects and it didn't surprise me when we discovered the murdered. The paranormal world only gets touched upon a bit and besides the basics we don't learn very much, but it works well as an introduction. While I didn't fully enjoy the book I do feel like it has a lot of potential and I think the rest of the series will be better and this one very much feels like an introductory book and I think the rest of the series will read smoother. If you enjoy paranormal cozy mysteries you might enjoy this one.

THE VAMPIRE KNITTING CLUB is a standalone read with a HEA. It is the beginning of a new series. Now, right up front I will admit I am not a vampire person. Don't have anything against them just don't like reading about them. But I figured if Ms. Warren wrote about them I would read them. I loved the Take a Chance series but it is very different from this one. However, even though some of the vampires are hundreds of years old they are all modern day people. They no longer kill to feed, they have modern refrigerators where they keep blood that people sell them - some to pay their way through school. They have powers and they can use them if need be but that isn't likely.A young woman arrives in London from the U.S. She is visiting her grandmother, a businesswoman that owns a local yarn store. It is in a small college town that has been around for centuries. (Having lived in Bath and the area the author is up to speed on the quaintness of the area and the folk lore). The small town has a line of old shops that have been in the families for generations. Upon arriving at the shop she learns that her grandmother has passed away. She just cannot believe she is gone. She was healthy one day and gone the next, it just doesn't make sense. But walking down the street she sees her grandmother walking with another woman. She calls to her but there is no response. So she takes off running to try and catch her when she turns into a side street. By the time the heroine reaches the street her grandmother has disappeared. This is just the beginning of unusual and weird things that are happening to Lucy. Everyone says her grandmother had passed away in her sleep. She was buried in a near-by town where her family is buried. Trying to cope with believing she saw her grandmother and being told she is passed she starts to have weird things happening in her shop and apartment. She encounters Rafe, he says he was a good friend to her grandmother. He is a handsome guy but something is off. Not in a bad way, just different. Then she finds a small kitten that seems to understand what she is saying to it. It won't leave her side and from its condition it seems as though it has been a stray on the streets. The kitten acts like an old friend. She is having a hard time wrapping her head around the goings on.The story is fun and light-hearted. Not at all the vampires and witches of old!! It is vastly entertaining and I really enjoyed it. I even plan to read book 2 in the series. This books ends with all loose ends being tied up neatly. There is no sex involved, any age group could read it. There are two murders to be solved. A witch comes into her own. There is a little flirting with the local inspector from the police department. It is not at all scary but it does hold the attention. It looks like this is going to be a fun series.I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/7/18

The Great Books entire collection is one of the greatest resources anyone can own. I have the Great Books in hard copy and continually refer back to them using the syntopicon. To be able to easily find what each great author writes about a tremendous amount of varied subjects is invaluable in continuing the Great Conversation. The entire selection, including the introduction and syntopicon, should be available with an easy way to navigate the syntopicon as well as each great book. Until then, this is certainly better than nothing but in my opionion can only be of best use as an adjunct to the hard copy. And, of course, this is only a selection of the Great Books.

Here is the basic problem. Amazon knows how to make a very good electronic reader, but they don't know how to assemble the programming talent and expend the time and thought and money to format collections and books in a manner that most readers would be accustomed to by default if they had a real book in their hands. Or maybe they just left it up to publishers of e-books to slap together stuff for the kindle. For shame. Its a great way to read. If only they spent adequate resources on the books they sell supposedly formatted for the kindle or set some standards for those do.This is not true for all kindle books. But you don't know which is which till you purchase. And few are up to standards. So you as the kindle user must make do and develop workarounds to the lack of good and easy organization which would allow access to where you want to go in the book. Like adding a book mark or highlight so you can get back to a chapter you want to reread without wearing out the forward key. Or since no table of contents shows on a Go To going to the Cover of a book rather than the Beginning to find a rudimentary table of pointers to the books in a collection. If I had the money to burn I would see if the Nook world was any better. I will let others comment on the actual books included in Volume 1 or 2.

Okay, but more of a jumble of books. I should have spent more and gotten a much better set.

It is a nice library of books you probably read once. I am enjoying the re-reads. It is not real easy to flip around among to books or find particular passages in one but I am enjoying the challenge of reading some for the first time and others that i haven't touched since my youth.

A great series... huge.

The biggest scam here at amazon. No table of contents...impossible to navigate through the book . Essentially useless don't buy it!

I ordered these in early May, but in spite of multiple attempts, they have not landed on my Kindle yet. I suppose that since it's only been three weeks since the purchace date, it must take longer for all these books to fly through cyber-space. I'll keep looking and if they ever arrive, I might then be able to expand my review.

Poorly organized set. The contents are very difficult to navigateBecause there is no table of contents, among other things.
