I started with Justin’s podcast. It helped me with my own learning and study. Most of the answers I got from “spiritual leaders” is that I was too intellectual. This was highy unsatisfying because it concerned me that leaders saw intellect as a bad thing instead of something to develop. This book (and his podcasts) helped me answer questions in my own mind and in the minds of many people I’ve been able to discuss the topics with.

This might be my new favorite intro level apologetics book. I think when I have a skeptical friend that is particularly a "just the facts" type, I will give them this one, and for the average skeptic I'll stick with my go-to of Greg Boyd's Letters From A Skeptic. Both books are singular in their own way. Greg's is singular in that it's an actual collection of letters between him and his dad, and it quickly became my all time favorite give-to-a-skeptic book.Justin's book is singular in a different, but not lesser, way. So many other apologetics books can be inadvertently "preachy" due to the fact that it's often an academic telling you why it's "smart" to believe. In this case, you have someone that is more of an outside observer, interviewing hundreds of people over ten years, and coming to common sensical conclusions based on that. Yes, he was a Christian to start one, but still, the fact that he is the interviewer, and not the "expert" allows the reader to really sympathize and go along for the journey.I honestly think Justin has a bit of C.S. Lewis in him (and I don't say that lightly), because he has some very poetic and beautiful passages on tough subjects, like the problem of evil. He has just the right amount of dry reasoning backed by emotional understanding of these issues, with a sprinkle of humor added in. And in my opinion he has found the exact length for this type of book, and amount of references -- just enough so you can expand your investigation (and give the book more credibility), but not too much to overwhelm the reader.It really is a remarkable book, and, like I said, now at the top of my recommendation list for the more rational minded skeptics out there.Very highly recommended.P.S. I love that fact that he defends Annihilationism. Not only does that view need to be heard more among Christians, but it also tends to remove a pretty major roadblock to a skeptic's belief as well.

This book was exactly what I had hoped for - a more personal and behind-the-scenes look at the Unbelievable? program. I have been listening via podcast for a few months, and I thoroughly enjoy the civil discussion of thought-provoking topics. What's more, buying the book was a very small way for me (a U.S. listener) to lend my support and encouragement. Highly recommended for fans of the show, skeptics and believers alike.

I had listened to Justin's radio show a few times, and enjoyed the format of the show and the topics discussed. I decided to purchase his book, and am glad that I did. It was very enjoyable to read, and also informative. Great book for those who have an interest in apologetics, and lively, fair debate.

Once I realized this book was NOT a biography of the band EMF, I settled in and enjoyed reading about Justin's experience in hosting his radio show for the last 10 years and how it has impacted his faith. As a newer listener to the Unbelievable podcast (which I also recommend highly), I appreciated reading about some of the more memorable interviews/debates as well as how Justin initially came to faith. I appreciate his honesty on some of the more challenging arguments that atheists have made and how regardless of such, in the end his faith experienced an increase. What I appreciate most in a polarized society, and the associated hostile social media environment in which we find ourselves, is the civility he displays and the respect he gives to those with whom he disagrees. I think we could all take a lesson in that regardless of our beliefs.

You could think of this book as a grand tour of apologetics from the one guy who has interviewed more atheists and apologists than just about anybody.But it is more than that - it is also a "De-Militarized Zone," much like the strip of land between North and South Korea. Where no shooting is allowed and where peaceful talks can take place.We need this VERY badly today, as the issue of polarization of social media and the inability for people to talk and listen to each other has reached an acute stage.I gave a talk at Arizona State University in August 2017, and said there are 4 rules of the DMZ: 1) No one gets to hide behind screen names, 2) No weapons, 3) Assume your opponent has positive intent, and 4) Get to the Truth, not the sale. Nobody practices this better than Justin.In the book he tells the story of how, at first, many listeners to Premier Christian Radio complained that "Gee, don't atheists get enough airtime already?" but in order to create that DMZ Justin had to grant them space. Unbelievable is now the biggest DMZ between atheists and Christians in the world.Justin maintains his DMZ posture in this book. Here you will find a series of excellent arguments for Christianity, but Justin always retains his "get to the Truth not the sale" stance where he presents evidence but still leaves it to the reader to decide. This indicates his faith in the power of Truth to assert itself in the end and it reflects a certain degree of security and calmness; where in many other places, the efforts to shut down conversation convey insecurity and doubt.(Off the top of my head I can't think of any atheists who have built a DMZ platform similar to what Justin has done with Unbelievable; and having been behind-the-scenes in the apologetics world for 20 years, I can attest to the fact that many atheists today simply refuse at a wholesale level to engage in dialogue.)If you would like a grand tour of many different arguments for and against faith, along with the interesting personalities behind them, you will do very well to begin with this book.

(There are 48 nations in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a combined population of more than 800 million.) Of course, it’s true that some African countries rank very low on Transparency International’s “Corruption Perceptions Index” (CPI) — after all, Somalia merits the very lowest score, with Sudan and South Sudan not far above it — but only Eritrea and Guinea-Bissau rank at all close to them. In between them are many other countries: Middle Eastern, Central Asian, Caribbean, South Asian. And three Sub-Saharan African nations rank in the top third of the 175 countries in the CPI: Lesotho, Namibia, and Rwanda, with Ghana close behind. Ghana scores better than Greece, Italy, and several other European nations.Second, corruption in Africa is viewed as intractable. It’s widely believed that nothing can be done about it. Nonsense! One of the largest and most potent sources of the cash that fuels corruption is foreign aid. Institutions like the World Bank, USAID, and other national and international agencies direct most, if not all, their support to governments. This, despite the obvious evidence on the ground that a huge proportion of this aid goes straight into the pockets of the ruling elites. If foreign aid were doled out more selectively to community-based organizations, local agencies, and NGOs with grassroots operations, the picture might be very different. As things stand, only a trickle of foreign aid gets to the people who need it most: the poor.Lastly, and most significantly, too many observers characterize African corruption as a uniquely African phenomenon that grows out of ethnic rivalries and the failure of European colonists to establish stable native governments. Those factors, while present, are only part of the story. Equally, if not more, consequential is the role of foreign investment — principally from China, the US, and Western Europe — in exploiting the continent’s abundant resources, often paying through the nose for the privilege. Corruption is a two-way street: briber and bribee need each other. And those Western investors include some of the world’s biggest US- and European-based multinational corporations — most prominently, Big Oil and the major mining companies. Chinese companies are even worse because they’re not constrained by legal restrictions at home. Prominent foreign aid cheerleaders like Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University do the African people no favors by advocating huge increases in official aid, rationalizing that some of it will actually do good. Just ask the first ten Africans you meet on the street in Lagos or Nairobi or Luanda. Unless you happen to run into a member of the privileged elite, you’ll get an earful about Western-enabled corruption.The Looting Machine spotlights this two-way street, with an emphasis on commerce. The role of foreign aid receives little attention. The principal source of corruption in Africa, Burgis contends again and again, is its wealth of natural resources: oil, gas, gold, diamonds, copper, iron, and many other materials essential to the rich nations’ consumer economies. Citing an analysis by McKinsey, he reports that “69 percent of people in extreme poverty live in countries where oil, gas, and minerals play a dominant role in the economy and that average incomes in those countries are overwhelmingly below the global average.” This is one of the most tragic consequences of what economists refer to as the “resource curse.” Burgis asserts that “An economy based on a central pot of resource revenue is a recipe for ‘big man’ politics.”It’s no accident that the resource curse finds its fullest expression in Africa: the continent accounts for 13 percent of the world’s population and just 2 percent of its cumulative gross domestic product, but it is the repository of 15 percent of the planet’s crude oil reserves, 40 percent of its gold, and 80 percent of its platinum — and that is probably an underestimate.”The scope of the corruption this cornucopia of resources makes possible is difficult to comprehend. Although with his journalism backgroundhe is no sociologist or political scientist, he tries to draw parallels between countries onthe strategies and dynamics that maintain the hoarding of wealth to the detriment of themajority who produce it.

This book is slightly challenging, meanders somewhat, but is endlessly fascinating. I gave it 4 stars because I felt that the abundance of information made it fascinating and kept me reading. But it could stand some improvement to its structure and organization. To me though, the bottom line is that, if you tire of supporting charities and causes that support the African peoples and nations and wonder why things don't seem to improve for African nations like they have for so many Asian nations, this will be a great starting place to acquire keen insight.

The well-connected local elite monopolizes the “economic rent” that the resources business generates, creating an apartheid between them and the rest of the population. This looting machine cannot work properly without the well-understood complicity of foreign governments and companies eager to put their hands on this bounty, preferably on the cheap. China has not many lessons of morality to receive from the West that too often shines through both its hypocrisy and cynicism. Furthermore, while the resources business is capital-intensive, it is not labor-intensive. Finally, any infrastructure that pre-existed the extraction and export of these raw materials gets neglected in the process.To his credit, Mr. Burgis is not all gloom and doom about the future of Africa. The author highlights that for all their shortcomings, South Africa and Botswana have developed a viable manufacturing sector within their borders. These exceptions prove the rule that the Dutch disease blocks the path to industrialization across Africa, resulting in the specialization of many Africa’s “resource-rich” countries in remaining poor.

I'm biased in regards to reviewing this book. I've worked with Jake Kronika in the past and I would work with him again in a heartbeat.That stated, the book so far as I have read it is an authoritative, comprehensive, decisive guide that is better than anything technical I've written (but see my author bookshelf for mostly non-IT works, some of which have good reviews).I have looked through the title briefly, and I regard my free review copy as an informational windfall. I've looked at it a bit, and I expect I'll be diving in full force next Django project!

Django 2 Web Development Cookbook is well organized and very detailed. This is a reference guide you'll want on hand or a great place to start if you are new to developing with Django. Jake even takes the time to explore and detail setting up your environment and covers a variety of approaches for doing so. If you are looking for a book that will help expand your knowledge and improve your Django 2 development, start here.

I liked this book. People who are interested in Phython, Docker & Django will most probably be interested in reading this book. Readers can gain knowledge. This book was very well written with ample examples and sample codes.

My 19 month old daughter now recognizes Elmo and so I thought getting a potty themed book to introduce her to the idea of going to the potty would be great. However, I was disappointed when I got the book because even though it says it is targeted for ages 1-3, it is not well written for that age group. P is for Potty sounds like a board book that would be simple, direct, and to the point, so I was surprised when I opened it up and saw paragraphs. I wish I had seen some previews of the book to realize that it is not a good intro to potty training book for the younger set. My daughter likes looking at the pictures and lifting the flaps, but she cannot sit through reading each page (she becomes impatient to turn the page).The biggest issue I have with this book is that it is too long and there is so much dialogue, making it harder for a child my daughter's age to follow along (There is so much Elmo says "...." and Albie says "....." and Elmo's mommy says "...."). It may have worked better if the author simply told the story instead of all the "talking" by different characters. It also doesn't have the word repetition that you find in other toddler board books. I also felt there was something about the vocabulary used in the book that made it more complicated than other books targeted for the 1-3 year old range.In my opinion that storyline is too long and there is too much going on for a 1-3 year old to follow, especially if you want it to be an introduction to potty training (versus a storybook for a child who is at the tail end of potty training and has the occasional accident). Here is the storyline/plot: Elmo and his mom are babysitting Elmo's cousins, Albie and baby Jo Jo. The baby is fussing because he is wet and needs a diaper change. He gets a diaper change while Albie announces twice that he used to wear diapers but is now learning to use the potty. They have lunch and then Elmo uses the big toilet in the bathroom and they show the steps (wiping, flushing, washing hands). Albie doesn't need to use the little potty. They play in the sandbox and then Albie has an accident and changes into dry clothes. He is reassured by Elmo's mom that it is ok. Later, Albie successfully uses the little potty. Then Albie gets picked up by his mom and tells her all about his day.In terms of the quality of the book, the pages are much thinner than the typical board book. As others have mentioned, even though it now has over 30 flaps to lift, they are unrelated to the potty and the storyline, and are really just an added distraction if you are wanting to use this book as an educational tool about potty training. They are great activities for learning "before and after" (for example, a lamp that is off and then you flip the tab and it is now on or blocks that are stacked up high and you flip the flap and they are knocked over).In conclusion, had I seen a copy of this book before I purchased it (such as a "look inside" preview that some books have on Amazon), I wouldn't have purchased this for my daughter. I've included some photos of the inside of the pages so that others can take a glance before they decide to purchase.

My big one loves it (3) and my little one (20 months) loves to read with us and look under all the flaps.Here is a tip mommies! About a month ago, my son was 3 years and 2 months. He didn't want to go on the potty. One of his friends came over and his mom and I had a cup of coffee. She told me that when her son was 2 1/2, she took him to day care one day and they told her that the next day to bring in SIX PAIRS OF UNDIES AND SIX FULL CHANGES OF CLOTHES because there would be no more diapers. They said pull ups don't work bc the kids just think they are diapers.The trick is to make them feel the wet. It gets cold on them and they don't like it. I was scared to ruin my rugs and furniture but I figured what the heck! So, the next day, I put him in his undies that I had eagerly bought on his 2nd birthday (hahahaha). He peed in them and came to be devasted "mommy!!! I am WET!!!! I need a bath! I am STICKY!!"I put him in the bath and threw his clothes in our other tub (figured that I would let a few sets pile up and then do a load). When he got out, he got fresh undies and fresh clothes, of course. He tried to ask for a "diapee" and I explained "nope this is it from now on. You can go on the potty and stay dry or poop and pee in your clothes and get sticky and cold and wet".About an hour later, my husband walked into our bathroom and he was SITTING ON THE TOILET WITH A POOP IN THE POTTY! We wiped his butt. Told him that we were so proud (he loves this and now asks every time "are you proud?". He got to pick a treat out of the treat bucket (left over Halloween Candy, lol) and he gets to stick a sticker on my wall in my bathroom (it is shiny paint so easy to remove).And that was it. He went pee and poop all on his own. I had my hubby teach him how to push his "winkie" to shoot in the toilet. He goes pee on the big potty and poop on his little potty on the floor. He comes and gets up (carrying the poop in the removable potty bowl - which is totally gross) and he is so proud and we go in and wipe him and clean the potty after he dumps it in his big potty.We did make one mistake. He had gymnastics the 3rd day and we put him in pullups bc we didn't want him to poop on the other little gymnasts :)!!! This kind of backed us up and he was wetting his underpants a bunch of times a day for a few days but we just didn't make a big deal about it and he eventually chose to stay dry on his own. He still makes mistakes but he knows where his undies are so he will strip and throw his wet clothes in the bathtub in his bathroom (he gets embarrased I think and doesn't want to be ridiculed for a mistake - which i get so it is fine with me). and then he goes and gets his underpants from his closet shelf and puts them on. He does fine at night.I am posting this for the mommies who are buying this book because they have talked about potty training with their little one but they aren't budging. My 21mo toddler boy loves Sesame Street and we’ve started potty training-I didn’t expect too much from this book and was still disappointed.Don’t recommend for toddlers in toilet training.•The wording is confusing, long,drawn out, hard to follow.•The lift up flaps are very thin paper-cardboardish, hard to open and rip, tear. Frustrating for a toddler. Not made for their chubby little hands,fingers.Once the flaps are opened, they don’t close.On the plus side:Bright and fun pictures. (Make up your own story to go with the pictures and your toddlers needs)Tons of flaps to lift and peep (tear) -it’s very cute, but not made for chubby toddlers fingers.It’s a challenging. (this book and toilet training, why add to the toddlers frustration?)

There are cool little flaps to open, which is a fun concept. But I hate reading this book. It's not much of a story, and the way it's written isn't very creative or interesting or fun, and I don't think it does a very good job of focusing on the potty in a useful way for my child. I'm trying to get my 2.5 year old toddler interested in starting to potty train, and this book really doesn't inspire any interest in trying the potty. Maybe this would be better for an older kid who is already potty training and having some setbacks. I don't know. All I know for sure is that this book "disappeared" after a couple of weeks because I don't ever want to read it again. I've had much better results and experiences from "Big Girl Panties" by Fran Manushkin, "Potty" by Leslie Patricelli, and "The Potty Book for Girls" by Alyssa Satin Capucilli.Edit: Also, the title is completely irrelevant to the book. Don't expect any reference to the alphabet.

I loved reading Bucking Bronco, all about Tara Stokes fresh out of college, stuck in a bear trap on Mr. Colton Bronson’s property, because she mis-stepped and literally got tangled in the trap as she was hiking looking for the water-falls on the edge of his property. She was there to speak to him about selling his property to Synergy Coal, for pennies on the dollar. But she decided to take a short hike to get the nerve up first before knocking on his door! Instead she has been stuck in this bear trap for over five hours. And she was exhausted! The author wrote a story about a rancher, who is bigger than life and takes no prisoners! Colten keeps to himself and does not socialize and likes it that way! Read this book and see how Tara & Colten deal with each other! I loved reading this book about Sugar County, this is the first in the series, I already read book 2 and it was amazing as well. There are two more books and I can’t wait to read them as well! Take a shot, read about the hot men in Sugar County, Kentucky, you won’t be disappointed!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and I bought it. I just love books by Madison Faye. They are unapologetically sexy and steamy but there’s always a great story being told. This one is about a former rodeo rider who finds a trespasser on his land. At first he thinks she’s a horse thief until he checks out her clothing. City girl in a business suit. Hot. He won’t let her go until he finds out who she works for. Tara is there for her oil company trying to buy this cowboy’s land for pennies on the dollar or he’ll be swindled out of it by some dirty politicians. Not her first choice for a place to work but that’s another story. Colton and Tara have a tumultuous instant attraction and the book is very exciting! Pure Madison Faye!!

Explosive from the very beginning!! Tara sneaks on Colton’s property to offer him a “deal” to sell his land and promptly gets caught in an anti horse-thieving trap. When Colton comes to release her that’s when the real fireworks start. Colton just wants to be left alone to run his family’s horse ranch after retiring from the rodeo circuit. When he stumbles upon Tara he is gobsmacked by her beauty and knows she’s not a horse thief, she’s much worse- she wants his land. Unbeknownst to her she is “working” for a company that is only a front for more shady men. He kidnaps her and has his way with her and in the process he falls and falls hard for her. Will he be able to protect her and his land from the people that want to acquire them?

I am new to Madison Faye. This is the first book of hers that I have read. Colton is a retired rodeo star and Tara is working a crap job just trying to make ends meet. She winds up stuck on Coltons land and mixed up between him and an old feud with a neighbor. It’s well written and the characters are likable and interesting.My one personal issue, the steamy scenes were over the top raunchy, super descriptive and long. I like good steamy scenes in my romances but this was just a little too much for me. Towards the end I started skimming through those parts. Anyway, if you are familiar with Madison Faye’s writing style and like that sort of thing then it will be great for you, but if you like the lighter side of steamy in your romances than this book is not for you.It had a good storyline and was worth the price. Enjoy!

It stayed true to Fantasy Faye style of writing, which I really like and enjoy reading. ( add smirking grin here). I like the direction this series is headed, and look forward to the next books. If you like it hot and heavy and explicitly detailed, here you go. Love the tongue in cheek title. Enjoy!!!

I absolutely loved reading my arc copy of Bucking Bronco by Madison Faye.Once again i was left speechless by her amazing work. I couldnt get enough.The story was off the charts hot and full of excitement and action. Thecharacters were all phenomenally written with an amazing connectionbetween them. This is a definite must read that you wont want to missout on reading.

What's that new word? SMEXY? Yup, Definitely Smexy! Tara and Colton are so Hot, and intellegent, and Hot, and tough, and Hot, and made for each other. Did I mention that they're Hot? Insta-lust, good plot, sexy descriptions, a short and quick read. Not a deep read, and a few gramatical errors, but did I mention they were Hot? Whoa! Will definitely look into the next in the series! ;-D

Woooo this was another HAWT one by Madison Faye! She never seems to disappoint! I love her stories with the insta love. They are super sweet and of course Madison Faye keeps you reading with how she writes what is going on between the sheets as well! I also love how she writes her Heroes and Heroines.Bronco and Tara were so great together and they had me melting for how sweet they were. Bucking Bronco is a great first book to the series and I can't wait to read what comes next!
