Dave Patterson is an award-winning writer, musician and high school English teacher.  He received his MA in English from the Bread Loaf School of English and an M.F.A. from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program.  His writing has appeared in The Burlington Free Press, Vermont Life Magazine, The Portland Press Herald, Maine Today and others.  He lives outside Portland, Maine, with his wife, two kids, and dog.

This is a slim but impactful novel about a young boy struggling with faith, family, and his future. The unnamed narrator is the young son in what we used to call a nuclear family= a family clinging by the fingertips to the middle class and the dream. This starts a little oddly with a bit about procreating cats that is a theme throughout but then settles into something which pings at the heart. The narrator's mind is blown, for want of a better word, by Taylor, a girl with less economically than he but with, in many ways a wider world view. Great setting and interesting time frame- just before the Gulf War. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Fans of coming of age stories featuring boys will enjoy this.

A wide ranging book that covers the activities, both internal and external, of the NSA from the early 1950s through the following half century. Recent revelations that the NSA seems to be spying on virtually everyone on the planet comes as little surprise to anyone who has read this book - the NSA has been a power unto itself seemingly unaccountable to Congress since the agency's inception and the extent of its technological spying tool kit, something Bamford goes into great detail about, is somewhat terrifying.The best parts of the book are about the agency's involvement in certain geopolitical events. The most damning was Israel's murderous attack on the USS Liberty during the '67 War, including the failure of Congress, or anyone else in D.C., to hold the Israelis to account to this day. Eisenhower's use of electronic eavesdropping and over flights of the USSR is covered in great detail, including a seemingly very provocative flight of multiple RB-47 aircraft over the Soviet's northern regions, a move that could easily have been interpreted as a surprise nuclear attack - had the Soviets had radars in that region, that they didn't. Ike comes across as a bit of a madman with his constant probing of Soviet air defenses and here I'd be a bit critical of what the author left out: Eisenhower did not believe the reports he was getting from the U.S. military about the Soviet's bomber or ICBM nuclear capabilities; the country simply didn't have the economic capacity to carry out such an effort, something that was becoming increasingly clear from photographic over flights of various air bases and missile sites. Once Ike had sufficient proof about the inadequacies of the Soviet threat he planned on launching a peace offensive, basically telling the Soviets to get real. One more mission was required to make this case, and it was flown by Gary Powers. One final nail in the coffin of our Vietnam disaster was the total disregard Westmoreland & Co had for the NVA's signals intelligence program, one that was quite sophisticated. The U.S. military refused to believed the gooks had this capacity and broadcast the details of upcoming missions, including B-52 strikes, in the clear with disastrous results.

Extremely interesting book about NSA and it's roots. Having been part of that program back in the 60's while serving with the USAFSS made it pretty fascinating reading, learned much more that I ever knew about that branch of the USAF and how they tied into NSA.

this book opened up my eyes about so many events that went on with our government and that of others. the truth shall set you free and this book helps clear up a lot of questions many of us have had about what actually happened with regards several incidents regarding intelligence mishaps in vietnam and korea and israel. this book filled in many blanks about organizations many of us worked in yet still did not know the big picture.

An illuminating look behind the curtain at an agency that was unknown for so long. Bamford's history of the NSA reveals so many AMAZING secrets that were classified until shortly before his book was published:- Eisenhower frequently sent fighter/bomber formations into Soviet airspace to see how far they could get before being detected, and how quickly the Soviet air defenses could react. This provocative action led to aircraft being shot down on several occasions before they could get out of Soviet airspace, and lives were lost. This finally ended when Gary Powers' U-2 was shot down.-The reason we wanted the UN in New York? To make spying on everyone easier!-The USS Liberty saw Israelis massacre 150 Egyptian POWs... so the Israelis tried to sink it, fully knowing it was a U.S. gov't ship.All in all, a very readable, very informative book. While every page doesn't have jaw-dropping secrets from US history, there are enough to ensure you'll have fun while learning a bit of history.One excellent point of education was the many disasters in our history resulting from agencies not sharing information. One thing Bush did right was making sure that something like 9/11 will never happen again because of this inter-service rivalry.A very enjoyable book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it's not as cutting edge as when I first read it. (Body of Secrets was published within one-two years of many classified documents being made public.)

Ok, so I've got a couple gripes about this book. First off, the title: Anatomy of the Ultra-Secret National Security Agency. This book is much more of an operational history, rather than an anatomy of the agency. It contains almost no mention of any detailed organizational structure. About the only anatomy you get are the basic divisions. Communist Russian, Communist Non-Russian, and Non-Communist. Also I thought there would be much more in-depth technical detail. This however was also not the case. The second gripe is the recycling of material used in The Puzzle Palace. I already own a copy of that book, and have no real desire to re-read information I already own. The book is well written, I just wish it was more of what it bills itself to be.

I am very excited to have this resource on hand. I use slow cookers about once a week, and have been looking for some ways to jump out and try new dishes that are not part of my ethnic background. I appreciate how it is organized and the pictures contained in the book as well. I think slow cooker recipes are a great start for anyone who wants to make more food at home, and this ebook would be a great gift for anyone who you think might want some inspiration. My only concern is specific for my family: many of the recipes include ingredients that we try to stay away from for health reasons; yet, there are multiple options surrounding these. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I have tried about ten different recipes from this book since I received it about a month ago. I am fortunate to live in an area where good Mexican food and ingredients are readily available. Those of us non-Mexican home cooks are competing agains terrific take-out options. As I would like the family to eat at home, I ordered this book to serve a greater variety of Mexican food, but home cooked. Success! All of the meals turned out very well. Several have become instant family favorites. Two comments that are not meant to take away from the excellence of this book, they reflect personal preferences only: I added salt and inched-up the "hot" ingredients for some of the recipes in the book; and each of the chicken recipes I tried required less time and a lower heat setting to keep the meat from drying out. The flavors are excellent and regional cooking styles are well represented. I fully intend to work my way through all the receipts in this book I have yet to make-not something I aspire to do with most cook books.

I love Mexican food and convenience, but I didn’t love this book. The recipes that we tried tasted processed and overcooked. I guess we prefer fresher Mexican food? We tried many of the dips, soups and chicken recipes, and also the desserts. The flan was a disaster. We couldn’t fit all the flan dishes in the bottom of the cooker and had to make it in batches, and the consistency was all wrong. So much quicker, easier and less messy to make it the traditional way. The one recipe that we liked was the black bean soup. After we at the soup, I cooked it down and made refried beans - it was delicious. I tried, I really did, but ended up donating this book.

I needed a few Mexican cookbooks for my shelves, so I purchases Yucatan by David Sterling, Nopalito by Gonzalo Guzman, and this book. I unfortunatly didn't realize that this book is Tex-Mex before I bought it, and Tex-mex is radically different than Mexican cuisine. There isn't anything wrong with Tex-Mex, it's just not my favorite.If you're looking for a good tex-mex slow cooker book, this is probably a great book.

Most of the recipes are more intricate than I would have liked, not out of reach for an occasional home cook. I have a handful of recipes that I really like, but these are not the throw-everything-in-the-crockpot and walk away recipes that I wished for. Takes more prep time than that. If you have time, they are doable and pretty good.

This is one of those books you don't know you need til you get it. It's a great book to have. It shows you all kinds of things that you can cook in the crockpot for people who love Mexican food but not enough time to fix it. You can put it in the crock and let it cook all day.

Great cookbook with many quick and easy recipes for the slow cooker. The cook times are general and it took some trial and error to get it right. I would have liked to see a substitution page for some of the ingredients such as for the various peppers and chiles.

I have had a few slow cooker cookbooks but not as good as this one. Not only do you get good recipes, with ingredients that you can find at the grocery store, but they are easy to follow. There is also history and advice on how to use spices and chilies! Wonderful.

Really easy recipes- not quite traditional but still yummy. However- there's no images at all which is kind of dissapointing

If you are already familiar with the Python, and want to improve your skills and learn something new, I think this book will be a good find for you. The author describes various aspects of hacking using Python, showing the capabilities of this programming language. And he writes about it in an understandable and accessible form.

Possibly the worst book in the three part series. Like the first two books, this one is also filled with typos and incorrect examples. It attempts to teach the reader how to use some more advanced open source python libraries. The tutorials on those library websites are much more useful (and correct). Again, the author clearly does not have an "advanced" knowledge of Python. I've return all three books in this series.

This book is poorly written and off topic most of the time. There were examples of straight-up untruths, and I'd be embarrassed if I published a book like this. Low quality, not very informative, and just plain wrong...

There is a very significant coding error here in Chapter Example - 'from flask import Flask, render template' produces a syntax error. Doing a little work I found that render_template DOES function. This mistake is repeated. Given how basic this is, I'm not sure I want to continue further.Please edit your work more carefully, Michael Knapp.

A pleasant reading anyway. These three books approach python from a different perspective which make them worth to buy. "Not enough" refers to the product fullfilling its 7-days promise.
