Great book for anyone who wants to know where sayings come from. Gives you an explanation of how the saying is used and where the saying originated from. Missing a few saying but has a lot you may not even know about.

A good read and will be a great reference book.

Well written! A very interesting linguistic fact book!

The meaning and origin of common words and phrases explained in approximately three paragraphs. Set up to be the perfect book for quick reference or bathroom breaks. The premise and setup of this book are good, but the actual contents are mediocre to bad. Some phrases, especially the more obscure or regional ones, could have benefited from a more in depth explanation, or even a sentence using the term, to better illustrate how the term is used. The author also could have "connected the dots" a bit more on how the term came about to how it came about as we now know it.Some entries (see Molotov Cocktail) were incomplete and consequently the "punchline" is never fully realized ("Molotov bread baskets" of which the Molotov Cocktail was a response both in action and name, were never even mentioned by Mr. Garrison).The worst offenders, like Three Sheets to the Wind, are just simply wrong. Mr. Garrison claims this phrase came about because the "rolling and pitching of a poorly rigged ship" was the result of a four-masted ship with only three sails unfurled in a gale. What Mr. Garrison doesn't seem to realize is that in a large gale, likely none of a ship's sails would be out, unless you wanted the masts torn out! His claim about symmetry is also untrue. Further, the phrase existed long before four-masted ships, so the author's explanation is wrong on multiple levels.While incomplete explanations are frustrating, they can be overlooked in light of the better written entries. A number of incorrect explanations, however, call into question all of the entries and consequently I cannot enjoy or recommend this book.

While the book does come across as an ego building exercise, it has a number of very interesting examples of programs that have worked and those that were tried and abandoned. I have read all Micheli's previous books and they were very informative and all have practical methods you can implement in your own dealings. This one unfortunately (to me) came across as an advertising copywriting job for MB USA. Most of the book is spent with words praising the ideas of the then MB USA boss (who has since left, unknown if it was his decision or a corporate push). I dealt with Mercedes as a vendor for many years during this time frame of the book and, from my personal experience, the employees did not "buy-in" to this philosophy. Just search Mercedes Benz Manhattan (their company owned dealership/flagship) and see the massive number of customer service complaints and how vehement their customers dislike them. This of course is not the book's fault; but in writing this book that all is rosy it becomes disingenuous at best for Micheli. I'd be interested to see if edits are made if/when another edition is released.

Purchased this as a present for my Father's birthday, and he loved it! He said that he really enjoyed the read and made him fall even further in love with a brand he now has even more respect for.

Motavational in nature, this book invigorates the reader to provide great aspects of the Mecedes Benz customer experience to their work place. I highly reccommend this book for a team reading exercise or any sales professional.

Very good, enjoyed the journey. This makes you think and rethink all of your own processes, looking for how each process and customer contact point can be improved. This should be shared with your entire team.

Very interesting book for Mercedes owners and others interested in how Auto dealers customer service works.

This is the first book I read form Michelli and it is one of those books you can grab as a guide to take action in your own business. Great read!

My son began reading these books a few years ago when the first one was released. Now that he's 11 and really too old for small chapter books, he still reads all newly released Ballpark Mysteries for pure enjoyment. It works for me as long as he's reading!

My ten year old son loves reading this series. If the author could just write more quickly. . .to keep him satisfied. Thanks for getting him hooked on books.

These books were purchased for my 9-year-old grandson and he enjoyed reading all 12 books. He looked forward to each one as they became available since baseball is his favorite sport.

Another book I purchased for Christmas for my grandson. I am sure this will be a winner.

Some of these passes boggle the mind, and I am looking forward to using this book on a planned Alpine trip in 2018, when I will "recreate" my earliest drive on the Stelvio Pass shortly after getting my driving license. My Mother and Father were mighty happy when we reached the top without error, at which point Dad took over much to Mum's relief.

This is an excellent book. We like to travel and drive in this region, and it is usually very difficult to choose and weigh the numerous options out there. This was a great resource for planning our next trip, and the history of the various passes is a welcome addition.

I did some of these roads with a friend in a Cobra summer 2015, and did not realise there were so many more passes!Great content, very nice coffee table book, if a second edition is printed, please do it on gloss paper stock.

Good quality with very nice pictures

I gave this as a birthday gift to a good friend who absolutely loved the book. Now my boyfriend wants one, too :-) I'm going to give it to him for Christmas. The book is absolutely beautiful and if you like traveling beautiful, windy roads in fast sports cars, you'll love reading this book.

Beautiful photos. If you are planning on a driving tour to some of these Alpine passes, it will give you a good idea of what you can look forward to.

Ready to start driving now.. 49 years ago we drove most of these passes. Seeing what they look like via the magnificent photos from a helicopter scared me but made me want to drive them again, this time enjoying the curves and the view in a more civilized manner. First time you just drive, second time I hope to enjoy the drive much more.PS we still have the Porsche 1968L that we purchased in Germany. We drove all of those passes with a 6-24 mo old sleeping on the rear seats in a box. No seat belts then :( and very high speeds too. She is now a Pediatrician. LOL

It has beautiful pictures but I would have preferred much more recommendations and history.

I love the BR series and this one is no exception. I'd been waiting for them to come out on Kindle since I got my device and I'm happy to say there are several of them available now.This series is great for those of us who love trivia, background stories, and other stuff no one really needs to know but find it interesting to read about all the same. These books are great to read anytime but are especially great for places like airports or doctor's offices where you want something that is interesting enough to hold your attention but that doesn't require a whole lot of concentration. A huge plus to having them in Kindle form now is that you don't have to haul those big, heavy books with you.This and the others in the series are great books whether you only have a few minutes to read or if you've got a large chunk of time. The longest articles are only a few pages long so if you hit a topic you really don't care about, it's easy to just go to the next one. I'd advise you to give even those articles a try anyway; I've found myself enjoying the articles about things I really don't generally have much interest in.The only real drawback to this and the others in the series on Kindle is that they still haven't really found a satisfactory way to handle the quizes. They have made some improvement in this book and now have a link where you can jump back to the answers. Unfortunately, they haven't made it so it's easy to jump back and forth between the questions and the answers.Personally, I wish they'd figure out a way to print the answers upside down under each quiz question. That would keep you from inadvertently reading the answer before you're ready and with a Kindle, it would be easy to flip the device to read the answer when you're ready.Outside of that, this is a wonderful series that I'd recommend even more highly on Kindle than in its regular book form.

I bought this as a Pollyanna gift and ended up with it at the end. As some who usually has a mobile device in my hand while "doing business" I liked the idea of separating myself from the realities of the world and taking a break at least during "potty time" at home.I am only 100 pages in as I only read it during "business" hours (or minutes), but so far the book is very entertaining. There are fun facts, odd bits of history, entertainment and news, various stories about how familiar businesses were started or funny typos from different publishing for example. Many of the stories are from the past couple of years so a lot of the information is still relevant.If you are someone like me who likes fun facts and are somewhat of a "Cliff Clavin" type from cheers, I think you will enjoy this book. My only caution is not to get too hung-up on the stories or you might end up with severe pins-and-needles in your legs from sitting on the "throne" a little too long!

I can say that Uncle John's annual editions are always a funny, relevant, informative read. They set the standard. These folks have done a lot of things right. The humor and personality of the books makes for an easy read and not a dry textbook. I did notice that they repeated one article this time, however. And when I say that that shows how good I think they are. They've established such consistently good annual editions with tons of pages in them. I gotta imagine it gets harder to dig and find trivia as you go on after so many years but if anybody can it's them.

I own several Uncle John's Bathroom Readers. The stories are short but very interesting. There are over 600 pages in this particular book, so it will occupy for awhile. I like to just flip through until I find something interesting. The little trivial facts at the bottom of each page are also interesting to read. This is book is something you can read briefly while you need to, and then pick up where you left off next time.

Great Book for the jail-bird in your life...no kidding..short stories and reading to help excite the mind and get away from depressive thinking.

A fun book of facts, in a nice, readable format. My only suggestion to the publisher is to have spiral wire binding for ease of use turning pages. Also, maybe have a bibliography section that lists where the source(s) of information are from? Otherwise, a good read to have in the bathroom, bedroom or on the desk at work to read during a lunch break.

This book has lots of fun information but I had to give it to my son because the print is so small I would have to use a magnifying glass to read it. But then I'm in my 70s and the old peepers are not what they were.

I've missed out on a few of the other bathroom readers, but this volume appears to have gathered new stories within the last three years, so I don't see any "repeats." I enjoy the snippets of facts after each story, and the short, long, and sit-and-get-comfy-on-the-throne variety is great. Honestly, I read it more before bed time than in the only room of the house I get any quiet, so depending on how tired I am, I can find a story that's just right before I get too sleepy. This book is great for trivia lovers and those that like reading something that makes you go, "huh, how 'bout that..."

I worked with someone who told me that one of the things they had to get across to their children was "different isn't bad, it's just different". That the point of the book. That it also pokes fun at Mike Pence is just a bonus that will be lost in children, but one look at the stink bug had me convinced. And the proceeds that would have gone to Last Week Tonight go th charity is a bonus.

After successfully completing my conversion(shock) therapy sessions with Focus on the Family, I found this book sitting on the bus stop corner. After reading three times over, I never knew the struggles of Mr. Marlon Bundo could be so pertinent to our nation's struggles but also our own internal ones. From here on out, only male bunnies for me.

As the mother of a gay son who remembers the discrimination he suffered in his youth, I am happy this charming book is available now. If, through my purchase, I am also contributing support for gay rights while competing with the sales of that other book, I am even happier. Love is something to celebrate, not demonize.

A wonderful children's book about the beauty of family and love!

Yes, it took me less than five minutes to read it, and cost $12, but it is sweet, and silly, and has an AWESOME message, and the proceeds g9 to a great cause! Bunnies should marry whomever they want!

Marlon Bundo is the smartest thing living in that house and truly, the one good thing about Pence, I liked the dog too. Maybe Pence is really like Marlon on the inside. I hope Pence finds his Wesley one day.
