Rachel met Joe one summer. He was older than her. She ends up telling him her feelings and he lets her down easy.14 years later, she is divorced now and trying to rebuild her life. She can't believe when she runs into Joe again. He bought her dream house.They take it slow rebuilding their relationship.I loved this second chance love story. It was sweet and fun. A new author for me who I will definitely be checking out more of this works.

I really loved the beginning of this story. It was just adorable. We get to meet Rachel Sachs and Joe Silver/Email Joe. They had had a crush on each other back when they were teenagers. However, Joe rejected Rachel at the time. That broke her heart and pretty much set the course of her life for the next 14 years when they meet again.I really enjoyed Rachel’s interactions with pretty much everyone. She was cute, funny and full of life. Unfortunately, that’s about all I liked about the book, and I guess I just did not get it. I can’t tell you much about Joe since we did not get his POV at all, and he sort of talked like a person in his late teens, early 20’s in spite of being an adult in his mid 30’s. Had I been Rachel, I would have stopped talking to him after the tenth time he asked me if he was a creep or apologized for being a creeper. I would also like to mention that other than a few friendly texts here and there, the first over 55% of the book is pretty much about Rachel and her love of doing other people’s hair. It was very informational in that regard. I learned so much about cutting layers, framing the face, foiling, shears, how a hair show actually works, how a hair salon works and how hard the hair stylists work. Like I said, very informational. So the relationship with Joe develops more in the second half. It’s like a super slow burn. And you want it to burn already. It really felt more like a teen romance more than anything. Teen romance with people who were far from being teens.Other than that, Rachel’s friends were really awesome and hilarious, and I’d probably read their stories if they were to make an appearance.

Cut Short is a second chance romance that I was happy staying up all night to read. It was so emotional, that I teared up a few times, and there was a little anger thrown in as well. But the romance between Joe and Rachel was a soaring ride I was happy to be on. It had all the feels, great friendships, and parental relationships as well. But the love was sweet, hot, and burned off the page. Not your typical second chance, romance. It will be put in my favorites, to be read again soon. I definitely recommend it!

Rachel and Joe was a good story. It goes to show that sometimes crushes do turn into love storys. I really fell in love with Jo he is such a sweet and caring guy. I know people who have been in Rachel's shoes. I'm going to read the next book now. I hope it's as good as this book.

I think I related to this one too much. I love second chances and musicians. This one had both, along with friends to lovers. Rachel and Joe had a sweet, slow burning relationship, but that didn't mean it didn't come with heartbreak. This story had me from start to finish.

This book was very well done. We see the adorable relationship of the teen years and the more mature- but still cute- adult relationship that develops. I really enjoyed seeing these characters build a relationship together and I wish I had my own Joe.

Seriously sweet, sexy, and heartwarming book. Rachel and Joe's story had me hooked from chapter one. Rachel is a strong heroine and Joe is a perfect mix of sexy as hell, adorable, practical, and just damn perfect. Their love story was a slow burn and I'm so thankful the author took her time and allowed the reader to fall in love with the characters just as they fell in love with each other. I've already bought the next two in the series and I can't wait to read them. Julia Wolf has become a one-click author for me. Buy this book!! You will love it.

I read this book after reading Jon Duckett's HTML& CSS. This book has some incredible things to say about web designer workflows for the modern day, and some great advice about tools as well. Mr. Hay is obviously an extremely intelligent expert in his field, and he gets his points across well.The book is not too difficult to read, but to really comprehend each concept and practice, does take a bit more time.My main criticism in this book is that it neither takes the step-by-step tutorial route, nor the high-level conceptual 'this is what you need to know--do it your own way' route. I really miss having code summaries like in Jon Duckett's HTML & CSS book, for the first chapters especially.Mr. Hay walks you through a very simple mutli-device live-wireframing process and scatters code throughout. There is not a single page that says, "Okay, here's how your HTML and CSS should look up til now." Yes, you can access the code through his website, but I just LOVE the way Jon Duckett and his publishers decided to portray very similar information.Overall, a good read, and very valuable, but could be formatted and organized for better and easier use.

Stephen does an excellent job of not only proposing a better workflow, but of walking the reader through it as well. The most valuable insight I picked up here was one of the actual deliverables – a breakpoint graph – very simple and elegant.

This is a wonderful book for understanding and providing a simple, down-to-earth approach to responsive web design. It's well written,and fun and easy to read. I'd recommend it to anyone who is getting into responsive design and development and for anyone who is into responsive web development who is looking for a way to organize the design and development of a responsive web project.

Written very well and the color examples go with the content to explain the material. I recommend it for anyone wanting to learn a design workflow.

I was quite excited to read this book, because responsive design is becoming a HUGE part of web development these days. People are moving away from separately developed mobile sites and relying on a streamlined user experience where elements shift based on browser width (usually) using media queries. This has become even bigger with the popularity of Twitter Bootstrap, which is completely responsive.I found that the beginning of the book was quite good in terms of explaining how responsive designs worked, but the author quickly started talking about his personal workflow including using archaic command-line topics. I would look for another text that provides more detailed examples.

At my current job, we are currently dealing with shedding the old processes and donning the new, but we didn't really know where to start. We knew what to do, generally speaking, but it was a jumbled mess of ideas and half-commitments. I picked up this book based on a recommendation from someone I follow on Twitter. I figured, "what the hell", it's not expensive, so if it sucks like most other books I've bought in this genre, no big deal. From page 1, I was nodding my head in agreement as the author explained horrible experience after horrible experience. From there, the bulb started to go off, and soon my ideas were starting to coalesce as I read page after page of Hay's insightful words, and terse explanations and arguments. I shared praise of the book with another co-worker, and we are now working to incorporate the many ideas and suggestions found in this book. Why? Because we give a sh!t about what we do and how we do it. If you do too, then you should buy this book.

If you're a client facing sketch artist of web pages, this book is ok, or even recommended, it's probably a good book to check out.If you're looking or CSS knowledge or a lots of good RWD patterns I'd look at other books as this is light as Dairy Queen ice cream, it's all just air in these portions, it's really more of a client facing, rapid wireframe advisor than anything else.This book does offer valuable advice while most of it is not necessarily for the serious web developer, but more for the big picture guy that pitches the ideas. It does offer one piece of advice for the developer that I took to heart and that's designing for mobile first then expanding to larger screen sizes. This is valuable I felt and almost worth the price of admission for that alone to see a basic (and i mean very basic) workflow for a responsive site. However I also feel money could be better spent if a responsive web design work flow is really what you want to see rather than a lot of client-facing advice (albeit valuable for the client-facing individual).

Amit Goswami, PhD, is a theoretical quantum physicist and a retired professor from the University of Oregon’s Department of Physics, where he served from 1968 to 1997. This is an Amazing book, the first I have read that connected quantum mechanics with that elusive thing we call Spirit, God, universal consciousness, or whatever, a concept that is so hard to grasp we cannot even give it a name, nor should we try! Goswami’s explanations of quantum mechanics are straightforward and succinct, not mixed up with quarks and such. I am an avid student of Spirit but have never before had an inkling of how Spirit and matter work together. I highly recommend this book if you’ve ever wondered about that yourself. Too bad I can’t give it more stars!!I love how he brings in all the major world traditions, melding Eastern and Western thought, to support his premise! Humankind has long been aware of the true reality.

Dr. Goswami combines science with philosophy to convincingly show that the foundations of modern empirical science need a major overhaul. He links the paradoxes of quantum physics with the philosophy of idealism… the idea that everything is build of Mind and Consciousness. In the process, he demonstrates that the paradoxes of quantum physics dissolve when we leave the philosophy or objective materialism behind. We come to see the materialistic viewpoint as a powerful model that lets us know something about the local world around us, but which fails when dealing with either the very small, or the cosmically large. When we realize that objective materialism requires "locality", that is, that there can be no "spooky action at a distance" in Einstein's words, we also realize that matter and energy cannot be the basic building blocks of the universe. Goswami invites us to begin perceiving the Universe as a construct of Mind, in which we participate. An astoundingly good book.

Goswami's introduction to the idealist interpretation of reality via quantum mechanics is very good at times. The problem is that, with three authors, the book's voice varies widely throughout, resulting in a frustratingly discontinuous reading experience. There are times when the explanations of quantum theory are very good. There are also times when the book resorts to cheap narrative gimmicks to explain "intimidating" physics topics, for example, and these attempts at novelty feel patronizing and obnoxious.At times, the book remains humble and qualifies its assumptions and speculations with words like "if" -- "if this is right." Many lesser books simply make assertions about quantum theory that are totally unfounded, leading to wild woo-town junk writing. The book should have gone further in its caution, acknowledging other interpretations and their potential validity, but Goswami clearly has a bias toward idealism. "I trust my intuition that the idealist interpretation of quantum mechanics is the correct one" (145). The author's intuition may be right, but rather than assuming based on intuition, it would be preferable if the author focused on how modern science suggests that idealism is the correct interpretation.Overall, this is a passable intro to the return of idealism through quantum mechanics, but I'd recommend something else, written by an author who doesn't play games with readers by interjecting tasteless narrative gimmicks.

This is a well written book. If you have never been exposed to quantum physics, you will get a good education into the paradoxes it involves vis a vis classical physics. If, however, you have read about the slit experiment, entanglement et al, you will probably want to skip this lengthy elucidation.Now, on to the crux of the author’s argument. The author says that quantum physics overturns the classic, materialist view of the universe. In fact, he says, the universe does not exist. It only potentially exists, waiting for a conscious being to observe parts of it which, once observed, come into existence and once no longer observed vanish back into probability. Therefore, he says, consciousness is the basis for existence, not matter.It is high time that physicists abandon the classical, billiard ball view of the universe. It is difficult for many older physicists to do that, I believe. But some younger ones are going to be able to build their careers on the quantum view. That is a giant leap forward and it will undoubtedly lead to break through technologies and, possibly, even new religions.But quantum physics is just as false as classical physics, in fact. Both try to explain the nature of experience by relying on observations. But observations are themselves experiences. They can’t explain their own existence.For example, when you are watching a movie, do you think the objects you see actually exist? You suspend your disbelief when in the theater. But you understand that you are seeing images on celluloid.A movie in which quantum physics is described is just as imaginary in nature as one describing classical physics. Everything you think and feel and sense is made out of the same stuff. It’s all imaginary.You cannot use the discoveries of quantum physics to explain reality. What you can use it for is to show that the axiom that the material universe exists leads to a contradiction. By assuming the material universe exists and investigating it thoroughly, you arrive at quantum physics, which shows the material universe does not exist. That is very important.The value of quantum physics is not to establish a new explanation for the universe; it is to destroy the old explanation.So, if both explanations now fail, what is the explanation? The answer is that there is no explanation. An explanation is a concept. A concept is a type of experience. It is part of reality, not outside of reality. Human beings cannot get outside of experience. Experience is all we have. Even transcendent experiences are still experiences. Even if you die, survive death, and enter heaven, you are having an experience.It is clear logically (I think) that something is creating this experience in all its complexity. Call that something the Creator. “The Creator” is a concept. It is not The Creator itself. It can never be understood. It can never be experienced. It is beyond experience. Why and How creation is accomplished are beyond our ability to comprehend.People love to explore. They do not want to think that there is nothing at the end of rainbow.So, my apologies. The only thing at the end of the rainbow is the end of the rainbow.

An excellent book with some new ideas that I have not heard elsewhere. The author is able to draw very interesting conclusions by combining concepts from quantum physics, psychology, and eastern philosophy. The paradox's found in quantum are not paradoxes at all if you can accept that consciousness is the basis of reality. Most of the book revolves around the idea that consciousness is the fundamental reality, not matter, which in some regards is very similar to the ideas put forth by Tom Campbell, in his book, My Big Toe (which I highly recommend to anyone who found Amit Goswani's book insightful).

I've read a lot of books on how-to-do comic art, some on writing and publishing, and this book stood out as soon as I began reading it. Last night I finished, and have to recommend this as the best book I ever read on the subject of comic book inking, and there is little need to improve over it as a feast of information. What Janson leaves out can be found in other books, but he carved the meat off the bone where others before were clawing off unappetizing chunks.Absolutely brilliant tips, tricks and approaches are found in these pages. The reviewer that calls this book 'preachy' merely is set to stumble into the holes awaiting most comic book artists on their way to mediocrity. Janson's primary lesson through every chapter is TO CONVEY INFORMATION TO THE COMIC READER. An inker clarifies and improves on the pencils, tightens them, and makes sure the storytelling in improved from pencils if not maintaining. Inside he covers light and dark, feathering, line weight, textures, and other basics that just aren't touched on in other books with the insight Klaus provides. And to help, he provides lots of lush B&W inked art from a period that probably influenced him - the Adams/Giordano/Wrightson/Kane period of DC comics. He also compared pencils to inks with more current art he inked over from Kane and Miller.While Janson's own ink style is rough and appears heavy handed, it does everything it has to with grit. Sometimes the art cries out, "USE THE CIRCLE TEMPLATE!!" but over all it demonstrates how he thinks in planning textures, placement of black and white or tone, and use of feathering to describe form. What the neo-Amero-Japo-manga artists need to learn, as does any art student going anywhere, is that art books give you information, and the more information they give you then the more their worth. Super enticing, glossy, sex bent art work should be reserved for the books people buy to enjoy the art and story, not the training manuals telling you info you use to plug into your own work. Janson hit it right on with this book, the rest is left up to you to DO and IMPROVE.Other books with good inking information - "Marvel Way" by Lee/Buscema has nice beginning info, and quick but pertinent info on weak and strong inking examples. "Rendering in Pen and Ink" by Guptill is a genius book on how to render and draw in ink for illustrators (or comic artists). "How To Draw Manga: Pen & Tone Techniques" by Ryo Touda handles a brilliant look at manga pens and tones. Everything else I fail to mention by name because it really isn't worth buying. You can put together a foundation of inking information with these 4 books that can't be beat at any art school in the nation.

Wonderful book for aspiring inkers. Covers everything from picking the right inking tools, to using different techniques, to using computer software on sketches to shade completely without ink. Very good book and worth the price. Highly recommended.

I've been reading and collecting art how-to books for decades. I got this one because I am illustrating a sports event in a comic book-page style. This is a new style for me, so I wanted some tips and got this book. Without question this is one of the best art technique books I've ever read in my life. It not only gives great explanations about technique, but also gives great advice about art in general, whatever your style.

I do recommend this book for anyone interested in comics, whether or not you're into writing, penciling, inking, coloring, or just reading. Inking, I think, is one of the most underappreciated art in comics because it really is the one of the most defining characteristics of the medium, as the book will explain. Much of the look and feel of comics is transmitted directly through the inking. The book shows, through example inked comic pages, the different effects (mood, weight, shadow, color, texture, etc.) which inking can create in a page, and generally how to go about achieving them. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because it's a bit short and I think it could've been made beneficially longer if they had added some tutorials or exercises which could help with the different techniques that are described. Especially for techniques like feathering and cross hatching for texture and shadow it would've been a bigger help to have examples or drills which the artist could perform to increase their skill. Other than that, the reading was laid back and so interesting that you'll find yourself remembering parts of this book for long after you set it down, especially if you practice your inking. Enjoy!!!!

I've read some of the other reviews on this product, and I agree that it's hard to find core rules of inking when sorting through Klaus Jansen's "preachy" style of writing. It also doesn't expand a great deal on anything that wasn't laid down already in "How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way" by Stan Lee. However, I would say that Klaus' experience shows through his writing. The images that he provides in the book, along with the blurbs he writes with them, are far more instructional that the main parts of the text. The main parts come off as a stream-of-consiousness that switches between the subject of inking comics and working in the industry as a whole.Long story short, it covers the basic tenets of inking, but also gives a lesson spread throughout about working in comics as a whole. I did learn some things to try in my own artwork, but nothing that changed it a great deal. Still a good reference for an aspiring comics artist like myself.
