Unfortunately, I purchased this book, believing it was an introduction to cocos2d. Unfortunately it is actually an introduction to Kobold2D, which is the author's particular distribution of cocos2d. I don't inherently have a problem with this except for the fact that the author spends a lot of time saying that Kobold2D is better and convenient, but never takes the time to really cover the basics or illustrate exactly why its more convenient.Kobold2D seems to add a lot of boiler plate code that seems unfamiliar to a typical iOS app programmer, and that tends to obfuscate how the programmer works with cocos2d, and how they work with Kobold2D. It's disorienting for a beginner.He tends to explain the code using hypotheticals ("Say you wanted to schedule multiple actions for one sprite, you'd use this code:"). As a new-comer to cocos2d, throwing out hypothetical situations that I haven't encountered and have a hard time imagining aren't really that helpful in the learning process.I hope the author can take a step back and perhaps revise the book to be more considerate of beginners, or relabel the book to "working with cocos2d" rather than "learn cocos2d." It actually could be called "Working with Kobold2D" if it were being honest.

It is a good book to learn about cocos2D-iphone and some other 2D game programming techniques. However, the readers must be seasoned with objective-C, UIKit (esp CoreGraphics) and Xcode, otherwise it could be hard to follow each chapters. Any knowledges regarding OpenGL-ES are very helpful as well. I have checked out several other cocos2d tutorials but I must say this is the best. The source codes for the examples are available online, however it requires some works to make them running on the latest Xcode and iOS 64bit. This book covers the cocos2d v2 only. Because cocos2d v2 is a kind of "classic" platform for iOS game development, so this book can be very helpful for whoever wants to learn game programming in iOS with objective-c.

I thought, I bought a book on learning Cocos2d v2 game development on iOS... but seemingly every fourth paragraph the author instead self promotes his competing lateral game engine code Kobold 2d (which I don't care about learning).He should've self promoted to his publisher Apress for his own Kobold 2d book instead of detracting focus on the supposed title's topic (the cover never mentions Kobold 2d). I don't want to learn Lua or Kobold.... I want to learn Cocos2d v2 for game develpment on iOS like the title of the book I paid for says.Not cool, disappointed...

I'm in the process of learning to develop iOS games (over 10 years developing applications in non-apple platforms). I'll begin by saying that upon doing a quick read of the "sample text" provided for the kindle, I liked the fact that the author showed quite a bit knowledge about the nuances of iOS, Cocos2d and Kobold2d (that is usually a good sign of overall knowledge on the subject matter). That was what made me buy the book. What I did not look deeply into was how he was going to present the examples that went with the knowledge he possesses. It wasn't until chapter 5 when I read the following sentence "Because this chapter contains lots of reference material, I concentrate on the relevant code and omit the details of creating new cocos2d classes as shown in earlier chapters"that I realized he was going to present the info in the manner that irks me the most. He takes the approach of "omitting" previous explanations, I'm assuming, throughout the whole book. I say I'm "assuming" because although I've attempted to finish the book three times, I've never been able to get past chapter 6.The reason for my thrice failure to get past chapter 6, other than perhaps not being super smart, is because while the author explains in detail new code as it comes in, he "omits" to re-emphazise what the "other" code is for; one has to constantly be "flipping" pages and screens and scour through previous projects to copy and paste and remember what the other code that sits besides the new code is for.For me, that is the worst way to show someone how to do something because in the amount of time spent "re-finding" the code that he is omiting, one could have read it, applied it and understood it along with its place and relationship with the new code he is explaining (if the previous code were next to the text of the new code). The author makes sure to let you know early on that the accompanying code to the book is available for download; that's great but all that does is make it easy for one to end up copying and pasting the whole code in frustration because of not being able to follow the logic from the text itself.Ranting aside, if the author would make a new edition of this book without "omiting" previous explanations or previous code and instead re-explaining purpose of previous explained code while maybe bolding new code to differentiate it from the previous code, I would buy that version in a heart beat.

The author seems to know his material, although the Kindle version is full of typos and feels like it may have been rushed out the door.Concepts are explained well and Steffen's willingness to clarify and provide help on his forums at [...] was a big selling point for me.Good material but I'm giving it 3/5 stars for the typos and the book's non polished feeling

So often books that are based on previously told tales come across as tedious and overworked. This was not the case with Beauty. This book was beautifully crafted from the first sentence to the last. I found myself mesmerized by the amazing world the author created and that i literally forgot all else that was going on around me. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves tales of romance and abundant joy. There was the perfect amount of humor and energy to keep the reader happy. I wish I could rate this book with more than five stars as it deserves no less. Excellent!!!!

I am an 11 year old girl writing a review on my mom's account. I love this book because it's not childish like the Disney Beauty and the Beast. I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the characters in this book. This is the first book I have read by Robin McKinley. The story is very sweet. I felt like I was in the story.You get to follow this young woman's life, starting out from being wealthy in the city. Her father's job doesn't end up working out. (She's motherless...) They have to move to the country where her brother in law grew up. They're the only ones very close to the "enchanted" forest. Her father gets lost and goes to the castle. After that there is a sweet romance that you fall in love with. I loved this story! It's great for kids 10+... I think that both boys and girls would enjoy this. I did!

The great thing about a fantasy is that some of it is timeless. That is totally the case with Beauty. It was originally published in 1978 shhhh but when you pick it up it is really a tale as old as time but it can be told throughout these decades seamlessly. It could as easily been published last month and because it is fantasy you’d never know.Why I liked this Re-Telling:It’s a classic beauty and the beast retelling the one I remember from my own childhood with an enchanted castle, the rose, the curse.*** Ger strode forwards and caught him in his arms as he staggered, and then half carried him to a seat near the fire. As he sank down with a sigh we all noticed that in his hand he held a rose: a great scarlet rose, bigger than any we had seen before, in full and perfect bloom. “Here, Beauty,” he said to me, and held it out. I took it, my hand trembling a little, and stood gazing at it. I had never seen such a lovely thing. ***I also saw where Disney might have got some of there ideas from. There are mysterious voices and servants in the castle that are invisible and always trying to ‘help’ Beauty with getting dressed and dancing a parade of food in front of her at meal times to chose from.The Castle itself is amazing with rooms that move and melodious giggling winds that try to direct you around the place. As soon as you start to feel lost just go around the corner and your room will be there.The Beast was sweet and charming and my heart broke for him as he tried to get close to a reluctant beauty. He has been lonely for so long and it really showed through in the story.*** “You fainted,” he said; his voice was a rough whisper. “I caught you before you reached the floor. You—you might have hurt yourself. I only wanted to lay you down somewhere that you could be comfortable.” I stared at him, still kneeling, with my fingernails biting into the sofa cushions. I couldn’t look away from him, but I did not recognize what I saw. “You—you clung to me,” he said, and there was a vast depth of pleading in his voice. ***This is a perfect story for MG and YA readers for an introduction to fantasy writing as well as great for older readers that want to feel transported back to their younger selves.DownfallsIf you are a semi-book snob like me you’d miss this book because it is ‘too old’. But I challenge everyone to get past that way of thinking at least in the fantasy genre.It takes a little time to pick up. The beginning was slightly slow for me especially as they are traveling out of the city to their new lives in the country. I sometimes get really board during traveling….just me. But once they are settled in the country and all the tales of the magical enchanted wood start cropping up I was totally hooked.*** “It’s said there’s a castle in a wild garden at the center of these woods; and if you ever walk into the trees till you are out of sight of the edge of the forest and you can see nothing but big dark trees all around you, you will be drawn to that castle; and in the castle there lives a monster. He was a man once, some tales say, and was turned into a terrible monster as a punishment for his evil deeds; some say he was born that way, as a punishment to his parents, who were king and queen of a good land but cared only for their own pleasure.” ***OverallThis is a beautiful retelling of a classic story with great imagery, a strong heroine and fantastic language in the telling. Totally worth a read.

I was disappointed at how this book ended as I have been a fan of Robin McKinley’s other works. But unfortunately, I have no other way to describe my reaction to finishing this; I was reluctant to give it two stars but I must be honest.The strengths of this novel include a detailed and interesting backstory for the Beauty of the classic tale, and a lot of interesting descriptive details added to the castle and environment itself, but at the unnecessary expense of almost anything else. The specifics of the magic system that underlies the carefully described setting are not explained, the results are merely reported, and the details of the underlying curse poorly mentioned in a pitiful paragraph in the final chapter leaving more questions than answers. The Beast is sadly underdeveloped, with almost no sense of personality or internal drives or struggles (spoiler: he literally HAS NO NAME), likewise is the relationship between the titular characters fleshed out in any sort of meaningful way. We are talking Anakin and Padme levels of why-are-you-interested, your-love-has-no-basis-in-anything, here. Indeed, it seems like the moral of this version of the story is that if you hang around someone who is minimally nice to you long enough, particularly if circumstances create little to no natural conflict...like, say, living in a magic castle that caters to your every whim with absolutely no effort or purpose on your part but pure enjoyment....you too can develop strong feelings for that person or whatever it is that is the sole available interpersonal interaction. The ending was one of the most blatant and obnoxious deus ex machinas I’ve ever read, and the “crisis” that begat it made no sense.In short: Everyone in this story is a nice, sweet, honorable person; at the beginning most are upper middle class bordering on rich, then they become merely middle class, then an obnoxiously wealthy person gives them some stuff just because even though they were already on the way to regaining their upper middle class status so now they are actually rich. Everyone falls in love and gets married and is beautiful. A horse is there.I have a lot of affection for this particular fairy tale and I’m greatly saddened that this version was not more fleshed out before publication; even the DISNEY cartoon had more sense of story and struggle, with villains and motives and overcoming obstacles. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, which is sad because I wanted it to be better.

Professor of project management in the department of management, marketing, and international business at the College of Business, Oregon State University. He teaches executive, graduate, and undergraduate courses on project management, organizational behavior, and leadership. His research and consulting activities focus on project management. He has been a member of the Portland, Oregon, chapter of the Project Management Institute since 1984. In 1995 he worked as a Fullbright scholar with faculty at the Krakow Academy of Economics on modernizing Polish business education. In 2005 he was a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He received a B.A. in psychology from Claremont McKenna College and a Ph.D. in management from State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a certified project management professional (PMP).

The book itself is good so far, practical and applicable. I am mainly writing this review to warn students not to bother buying this book new. I read that it came with a disc, and that I should buy it new or the disc may be used or missing. The included disc is just a 60 day trial of MS Project, not even enough to get through the semester. Whether your book comes with the disc or not you will still have to figure out another way to get the program.

NOT THE SAME as the 6th edition in US. There is a page at the front that describes the differences. The cases have all been changed to India specific ones. The body of the text seems similar with explanations about the concepts, but page numbers will be significantly different from US 6th edition. Also, the top of the pages do not list what chapter you are reading, making cross referencing or flipping to a section challenging. The paper is also very thin and not good for highlighting as it will bleed through. I have both books side by side.

As others have stated, this is a good overview for a survey level course in PM. It is repetitive, but I think that is understandable in a survey course textbook of this nature. I agree that the scenarios are a little out of date; for the cost of the sixth edition, these could have been updated. It is certainly easy to understand, but I wouldn't have pegged this as a graduate level text. If you don't need this as a requirement for a course, I wouldn't buy this as a self-study guide. It's far too expensive for an overview. As far as readability, it's an easy read for an introductory level course.

This book was a semi easy read (until the last few chapters), I think it would be more enjoyable in a classroom setting, I read the book for an online course and at times was rather hard to follow. I would not suggest this book unless you were taking a class on Project Management and this book was required. I'm certain their are much easier books to follow if you are doing self-study.

I'm only on Chapter 5, but I have cut off pages 263-276 (so far). Not good!Missed return deadline because I didn’t discover the issue in time. No one offered any type of restitution.

Content is really useful, but be careful, I got the Indian version. By the way, the is no significant difference between the International and Indian Version. So, don't care.

I purchased this book thinking it was the original version because the description did not stipulate otherwise, but instead realized once I started reading it that it was the Indian version so none of the case studies were applicable to my course. It would be nice if the seller would make it clear in the description that this is an international version for Indian companies. I wish I could return it, but it's too late now.

Really well written and east to follow. Lots of great case studies and highlights. Too bad page the sentence at the bottom of Page 574 is never finished. The facing page is Page 607. Not sure where the missing pages went. LOL. But, its a really good book overall. (paperback version)

I loved the premise and the imaginative magic; the residual nature of spells as they dissipate and the people who can read them are rare. Dani has left the force to start a life change of owning a pizzeria. Asked to help with a high profile case brings her back for a consulting gig only. And this is where you ground to a halt for me. The dragging out til the end of the book almost, why she left. The title of the book...there was no part of this book exploring these files. The next to the last page, the files were given to her. No inkling of what's in them, why she wanted them, why they are closed files. I waited the entire book to see what the files entailed. Seriously, name the book something else. *** tiny not really/maybe spoiler***.......................... Captain King stating that Dani was the only human he ever fed from. Hundreds of years old, come on. No synthetic blood hundreds of years ago. Pulled me right out of the story. On the fence if I purchase the next, as I did really like her magic and its applications.

Another new series by Gina LaManna. How I enjoy and love her books and wish I had just a little bit of her enormous imagination.We visited 'Wicked' in the last novel of The Isle-series. Wicked is one of the boroughs of New York, but an invisible one like the Isle and inhabited by all sort of magic creatures.Danielle (Dani) is a Reserve, which means she can see the residue of magic, and she has been a Detective on the police force until something made her retire. We find out what later in the story. She has just opened a pizza restaurant when her (police officer)-brother Nash arrives with Captain Matthew King. He is her ex-boyfriend, a vampire and in need of her help with a murder scene.The story is told in changing POV's, which I liked as we get to know the thoughts of Matthew as well. Not in the first POV like Dani's, however. But it is clear the vampire is deeply in love with Dani and had his reasons to break off their relationship. As Dani is also still in love with him, I hope we will see those two get together (soon I hope.... my romantic heart needs it).A small but important role for the 'Hex Files' of the title. Dani requests to see those files in exchange for her help. I am very curious about those files!!The writing is very pleasant and original, as always. I can't recommend this author enough. I always know I will have a good read when I open one of her books. I love this new series and can't wait for the next, fortunately in just a couple of weeks!

Sometimes its from the main character, next paragraph is from secondary POV, and then the third paragraph is narrated. The story was decent, and what I'd expect from an off shoot of Magic and Mixology, but jumping around in narrative was really annoying.Didn't love the fact that this is the Hex Files, but this story has nothing to do with them. I suspect it will take many, many books to figure out what they are so maybe should have focused on the Burroughs aspect?Some of the character interactions were way too far fetched. Not my favorite series by this author. Almost wish she would focus on the M&M series or MAGIC Inc instead of trying this crime series.

I always love Gina's books. Her imagination is amazing. I liked, but didn't love, this book. The premise was right up my alley...magical beings and magical places. I like the diversity of.magical beings in Wicked. What I didn't like was the jumping around of point of view. Sometimes it was 1st person Dani. Sometimes it was 3rd person. I dont like that in a book. But I am certainly going to continue the series. It just really stuck out at me.

This series from Gina LaManna is set in the same world as her Magic in Mixology, Eternal Springs,and MAGIC, Inc. series' and it doesn't disappoint. Intriguing heroine with crazy family? ✔ Handsome hero with secrets? ✔ Supernatural community setting? ✔ Charming friend/sidekick? ✔ Mystery to be solved? ✔Then a few more twists are added so you can hardly wait for the next book, which thankfully is already available. Our lead characters have a past-future romantic relationship as well as a working partnership, and they will continue to be thrown together. The family is all mixed up in everything, and our heroine owns a pizza shop and works as a consulting detective.All I can say is that Gina has put all the pieces of a great series together again, and I'm in for the ride.

While set in the same world as the "Magic and Mixology" series, this book has a slightly darker, grittier tone which suits the story and characters perfectly. It featured a solid mystery with good detective work and introduces us to an interesting, likable cast of characters. It's almost as if this book came from a different author - the voice/tone for the book is unique and doesn't resemble any of Ms LaManna's other series - I think that's a difficult thing for a writer to achieve and I'm impressed. Not surprised though, Ms LaManna's clearly talented and I love everything I've ever read by her.

I have enjoyed so many books for this author. They have mostly been romances with great light humor and family twists. But this series sets up the possibility of being a really good urban fantasy series. The world building is excellent, there is romantic element and tension, and the characters are building nicely. What LaManna is particularly good with though is having a light hand, and letting the humor and relationships of all sorts build very naturally. I really recommend this book as long as you like lighter urban fantasy with some romance.

Very much different from LaManna’s usual books. This one is much more serious, although the character of Willa is delightful. I found main character Dani to be interesting, intelligent, resourceful, brave, & quite stubborn. I enjoyed the dynamics between her & Matthew. Lots of sizzle. Definitely a great new series for LaManna!
