Last week I got hired as a part time bookkeeper at a local small business that does it's accounting on QuickBooks. I have a degree in accounting, and I've used Quicken before, but never QuickBooks. So before my first day, I downloaded this manual and read all the sections appropriate to what I knew I'd be doing on this job. Even though I'd never used QuickBooks, my accounting background gave me context for the different functions, so I could understand what was going on as I read through the various descriptions of functionality.So, on my first day I was "loaded for bear" and got productive right away.My only critique is that given how large this book is, how expensive it is, and it's aim to be comprehensive, I with there were a few more screenshots during long step-by-step descriptions of procedures. It left a little too much to the imagination. Of course, if you've got QuickBooks installed and you're using this next to your computer, that shouldn't be a problem.The bottom line (accountants love bottom lines) is that this is the book I needed when I needed it.

Got this book from the library and read it cover to cover. It is so worthwhile I had to purchase it. I refer to the book often as I come across things in the QuickBooks software that I am unfamiliar with. I especially like the layout of the book- it is step by step from installing the software through logical progression of using the software. You can start at the beginning and get organized correctly from the start and then just use the index to go to any specific topic when you need help. There are examples on every page and real world scenarios that help to explain concepts. No need to sign up for a class on how to use QuickBooks. This guide does it all, and for a lot less money! Easy to understand and a great reference book to keep at or near your desk.

I am a total beginner with QuickBooks. I started reading this book to learn it, but I decided to purchase the Simon Sez IT DVD-ROM to learn the basics. I am happy so far just getting into the DVD. I think this book is very in depth when learning the software. I know I will use it in the future, reading it from front to back, or looking up certain areas as reference. I understand the complaint of the other reviewer about the font being a little hard to see. I can read it but someone that's a little hard of seeing might not be able to read it as well. I think they put a lot of knowledge in this already thick book, so I' assuming that's why the font is small. The grey font is for contrast and they might not have much options for a black and white publication. I think they put a lot of time into writing this book, and being very in depth, I think it deserves a good review.

Invaluable for those just starting out with QuickBooks, or converting from another product such as Peachtree. This is good reference book with detailed index and good table of contents.

It is a great informative book. Worth the money and the time invested in reading it. Then, why 4 starts? Every time that I look for a key word I got a lot of entries, but few procedures and how-to topics.

Great product but be very careful in making decisions when you set it up as some aspects appear to be difficult or impossible to change. Will be following up with tech support to see if I can get my issues resolved.

Given that I was reading this on a Kindle, I found it very hard to maneuver back and forth between pages and sections. Seems there should be a more intuitive way for a person to access information from different sections such as compare restaurants in different neighborhoods.

The tourist information is decent, but navigation on the Kindle (for iPad) could be better. Also needs better maps -- why not an offline downloadable zoomable map? This is what e-media ought to specialize in.

It helped, but there's an updated version out now.

It's more descrpitive and helpful than other book on Hongkong- 10 Things to do in Hongkong- I bought recently from Amazon.

Great book for navigating Hong Kong!

Very good for sightseeing. Not so good for hotels and restaurants, as it leans to heavily on the ultra luxury places, but not enough on harder to find reasonable places. The best places can be found anywhere.

I bought this for a short trip to Hong Kong and Macau. I found the content really hard to organize and didn't give me an easy way to understand the city. I have used a number of different travel guides for other cities and this was first one that hasnt been helpful.

This book is rife with errors. We're on day two of our trip to Hong Kong and there have been two restaurants with incorrect addresses listed in the book. We're now going to have to triangulate every tip in the book online before we take any more of the Fodor's advice. Pretty frustrating.

Brillant and sensitive photographer....and what can I say, she made her art speak for the people. She should be required reading & viewing for all Americans to understand our history.

I am a photography student, and we had to read and write a book report on a photographer for class. I selected Dorothea because I am became interested in the 1930's through the 1950's in America, particularly photographically.Let me say that Dorothea lived a lifestyle way ahead of her time. During a period in America when women stayed home with their children and husbands, Dorothea farmed out her children to be on the road and working.I really enjoyed this book. It had some of her well-known photographs i.e. The Migrant Mother, and others that I enjoyed seeing. I wish there had been more of her photography in the book and perhaps more details of her life.The story is written by the daughter of her life-long assistant Ron Partridge. Elizabeth Partridge does a good job with the information she has at hand. I particularly enjoyed her own memories of families Thanksgiving day dinners shared at Dorothea's 20' long table.Great book as a start of a collection of Lange's work. It is also a nice reference for information about the American Dust Bowl, The migrant workers, Japanese Interment Camps during WWII, and The Great Depression, and tenant farmers in the South and Southwest! The story has given me a different perspective on America during this period I apparently didn't know a lot about. The conditions that American's dealt with, and the photographs that show the story, are shocking. I grew up in "white bread" New York, and could not fathom that such heart-ache existed in another part of our country just a couple of decades before my youth.The story of Lange's life and dedication truly gave me a new respect for her work, and the type of sacrifaces a person has to make to accumulate a body of work such as Lange's.I would recommend this book.

I am a fan of Carl Jung and I find a lot of his ideas resonate within me, so when I saw this book I had to have it. I thought it was going to be a book shining light on his ideas and was to help gain understanding of myself. However I was sad to see this was simply a slight biography filled with little tests to discover what personality type you are, if you are an introvert or extrovert that reminded me of something you take in a magazine or on the Internet. I really don't feel like I "discovered" anything, especially about myself except I really didn't like this book.

This is one of the best introductions to the thought and life of Carl Jung. It covers all of his major psychological concepts in clear and concise language. The author has also included several "exercises" to help the reader in their own journey towards wholeness. For example, in one section, the reader answers a series of questions and then one is able to determine what "Psychological Type" they are. Several other exercises focus on Jung's method of active imagination and confronting one's own shadow. The book, then, is not just a dry academic presentation of Jung's psychology. Instead one becomes actively engaged with Jung's theories and through the exercises one can see how his ideas relate to our day to day life. In this sense, the author has made Jung much more enagaging and richer than many other standard "textbook" type introductions. The book is well illustrated with several photos of Jung and his world. I highy recommend this for anyone who is new to Jung and wants a good introduction to his thought. I have suggested this book to many of my friends and despite its brevity, it does an excellent job of capturing the heart of Jung's ideas on human nature.

A captivating and imaginative story that weaves the life of a 13 year old boy in England, near the Welsh border in 1199 and 1200. Arthur of Caldicot, son of Sir John and brother of Serle and Sian,longs to be a squire and is given an obsidian stone by the mysterious friend of his father Merlin. In this stone, he sees the narrative unfold of the legendary young King Arthur, of centuries before. His life so parallels the young Arthur in may ways that we wonder what this Arthur's future will be.While the legendary story of Arthur and the sword in the stone is told in a brief elementary fashion, the story of Arthur of Caldicot is endearing and gripping.We learn of life in 12th century England, where the rich rob the poor, the strong trample the weak and widows and orphans are defenseless- a situation so different from wghen Britian was ruled by the great King Arthur, and a siutation which cries out for a hero.Filled was the irrepressible reeve's daughter Gatty and the chamber-maid Tanwen, the mysterious Lady Alice (with a dark secret)and the priest Oliver.Certainly the two parallel worlds are tied together well in 100 short chapters, certainly it is a page turner and certainly we look forward to reading the sequelsHas something of a a Tales of Canterbury feel.

Now when you get the second or third book in a series you can either close your mind to what went before or make it a point to buy the books before. This I did and I was not let down. I will say that it is a double story, the tale of a young man named Arthur who lives in 1199 and a repeat of well known King Arthur tales. The Arthur of 1199 is the possessor of a special stone from Merlin, yes The Merlin, which reveals the legends behind King Arthur. The book goes back and forth between two worlds and it is the world of 1199 that is most fascinating. Kevin Crossley-Holland covers no new ground in Arthurian history, if anything it is a repeat that those of us who are Arthurian buffs have read over and over. What makes this book a lovely read is how the Arthur of 1199 relates to it and the parallel's between the two worlds. The characters in the "real" world of Arthur who tells the story are more real and the background as true as any historian could hope for. The only letdown would be that those of us who have studied the life of King Arthur will feel that the author has based too much on things that have been over told and are likely far from the truth. As one who has no doubts that there was a King Arthur, I can't feel a real service to the legend has been given. Hence four rather than five stars. A warning. The author is associated with children's works and there is a hint in the writeups promoting the book that it is for chiuldren. I would say it is more a young adult to adult book and not one I would give a pre teen to read. I speak here as an educator for over 40 years.
