I am a fan of Carl Jung and I find a lot of his ideas resonate within me, so when I saw this book I had to have it. I thought it was going to be a book shining light on his ideas and was to help gain understanding of myself. However I was sad to see this was simply a slight biography filled with little tests to discover what personality type you are, if you are an introvert or extrovert that reminded me of something you take in a magazine or on the Internet. I really don't feel like I "discovered" anything, especially about myself except I really didn't like this book.

This is one of the best introductions to the thought and life of Carl Jung. It covers all of his major psychological concepts in clear and concise language. The author has also included several "exercises" to help the reader in their own journey towards wholeness. For example, in one section, the reader answers a series of questions and then one is able to determine what "Psychological Type" they are. Several other exercises focus on Jung's method of active imagination and confronting one's own shadow. The book, then, is not just a dry academic presentation of Jung's psychology. Instead one becomes actively engaged with Jung's theories and through the exercises one can see how his ideas relate to our day to day life. In this sense, the author has made Jung much more enagaging and richer than many other standard "textbook" type introductions. The book is well illustrated with several photos of Jung and his world. I highy recommend this for anyone who is new to Jung and wants a good introduction to his thought. I have suggested this book to many of my friends and despite its brevity, it does an excellent job of capturing the heart of Jung's ideas on human nature.

A captivating and imaginative story that weaves the life of a 13 year old boy in England, near the Welsh border in 1199 and 1200. Arthur of Caldicot, son of Sir John and brother of Serle and Sian,longs to be a squire and is given an obsidian stone by the mysterious friend of his father Merlin. In this stone, he sees the narrative unfold of the legendary young King Arthur, of centuries before. His life so parallels the young Arthur in may ways that we wonder what this Arthur's future will be.While the legendary story of Arthur and the sword in the stone is told in a brief elementary fashion, the story of Arthur of Caldicot is endearing and gripping.We learn of life in 12th century England, where the rich rob the poor, the strong trample the weak and widows and orphans are defenseless- a situation so different from wghen Britian was ruled by the great King Arthur, and a siutation which cries out for a hero.Filled was the irrepressible reeve's daughter Gatty and the chamber-maid Tanwen, the mysterious Lady Alice (with a dark secret)and the priest Oliver.Certainly the two parallel worlds are tied together well in 100 short chapters, certainly it is a page turner and certainly we look forward to reading the sequelsHas something of a a Tales of Canterbury feel.

Set on the Welsh borders in the closing months of the twelfth century, it tells the tale of thirteen-year-old Arthur de Caldicot, the second son of a minor English lord, who dreams of entering service as a squire and ultimately becoming a knight. When he is given a mysterious obsidian stone by the wise man of the village, he soon discovers its magic as he is shown the story of his namesake, the King Arthur of legend, whose life in many ways mirrors his own.The novel takes the form of a diary written by Arthur, and is told over the course of 100 short chapters, some as long as a dozen pages, others as short as half a page. The spirit of the middle ages, including all the small details of life in Caldicot, is expertly captured: from Arthur's yard-skills of sword-play, jousting and archery to the workings of the manorial court, where justice is dispensed; and from the frivolities of Halloween and Christmas to the more gritty realities of medieval life. Crossley-Holland is not afraid to address difficult issues, such as divisions of class and wealth in society, and Arthur's comfortable life is often contrasted with the impoverished existence of Gatty, the reeve's daughter. Though the two are portrayed as best friends, their different circumstances make it impossible for either to fully understand the other, and consequently there remains a distance between them that can never be crossed.Many other supporting characters flesh out this landscape, offering Arthur direction as he searches to understand the world he lives in, and find his own place in it. Two in particular stand out: the bookish priest Oliver, directed by his Christian learning; and Arthur's ancient grandmother, Nain, whose wisdom stems from the tales and folklore of her Welsh ancestors. The book is dotted with illustrations taken from contemporary medieval sources, and is supplemented by two endpaper maps depicting in lavish detail the manor of Caldicot and its environs, both drawn by Hemesh Alles. The paperback also contains the first two chapters of the sequel, "At the Crossing-Places", as a taster.

I began reading this series as a dear friend in England gave me the third book as a birthday gift. Now when you get the second or third book in a series you can either close your mind to what went before or make it a point to buy the books before. This I did and I was not let down. I will say that it is a double story, the tale of a young man named Arthur who lives in 1199 and a repeat of well known King Arthur tales. The Arthur of 1199 is the possessor of a special stone from Merlin, yes The Merlin, which reveals the legends behind King Arthur. The book goes back and forth between two worlds and it is the world of 1199 that is most fascinating. Kevin Crossley-Holland covers no new ground in Arthurian history, if anything it is a repeat that those of us who are Arthurian buffs have read over and over. What makes this book a lovely read is how the Arthur of 1199 relates to it and the parallel's between the two worlds. The characters in the "real" world of Arthur who tells the story are more real and the background as true as any historian could hope for. The only letdown would be that those of us who have studied the life of King Arthur will feel that the author has based too much on things that have been over told and are likely far from the truth. As one who has no doubts that there was a King Arthur, I can't feel a real service to the legend has been given. Hence four rather than five stars. A warning. The author is associated with children's works and there is a hint in the writeups promoting the book that it is for chiuldren. I would say it is more a young adult to adult book and not one I would give a pre teen to read. I speak here as an educator for over 40 years.

I enjoyed the opportunity to gain greater insight into the life and times of Alexander Hamilton. I particularly appreciated the use of quotations from original documents that supported the author's narrative. This book also provided an intimate look into the culture of the period and the competitive alliances and interactions of our founding fathers.I mostly read technical books and found this biography very enlightening, enjoyable, and particularly relevant to today's political discourse. Just when you think that political infighting can get no worse, you witness in a very personal account that it already has, 200 years ago. The battle of ideas continues, but more dominated by 2 minute sound bites today rather than reasoned, articulate, and well crafted written positions, of which Hamilton was a master.I enjoyed the book.

What an interesting book . I kept thinking "why wasn't I taught this way?" The book was thorough and provided background to keep things in chronological order. It was the personal story that was heart warming and made for a page turner. An amazing man who the reader becomes intimate with as the story unfolds. Strong engaging. So glad I read this book. Now to see the Broadway play!

I am in the process of reading the bios of the presidents and took a break to read about Hamilton because he was so influential. This book was an easily readable survey of the highlights of his life. I chose not to read Chernow's more famous book because of its 800 pages.

This book has facts and accomplishments, but no heart. Basically, think of it as Cliff Notes which gives you enough details to know the basic facts but not to truly understand, respect and admire a man that made such significant contributions to our country.Ali Julia review

A short compact look at Mr. Hamilton. Will drive you to learn more about this very complicated, very intelligent, little known founding father of Anerica's banking system.

This book is a good read if you're just looking to get the key events and accomplishments in Hamilton's life. The author also supplements the text with portions of Hamilton's own writings, which is nice. However, it's the "CliffsNotes" version of the story and lacks the necessary detail to allow you to really get to know the man. I enjoyed this book but will be immersing myself in Chernow's biography next.

Very minimal for Hamilton's story, even when limited to an emphasis on his contributions to the country's beginnings. Too much left out, I think. Good for someone just starting to learn our history, though.

Interesting history of Alexander Hamilton. Some parts a little hard to understand because of the language of that era. Interesting part of history.

I found the book in good condition. Price was much cheaper than nearby stores of Philadelphia PA. Free shipping was on time.

This is the most popular book on applied mathematics and modeling in chemical engineering. As late as 1985 Neal Amundson "had decried the fact that while there was a plethora of books on applied mathematics, none was really suitable for courses for chemical engineering students". Rice and Do's book is a worthy successor to the very popular "Application of Differential Equations to Chemical Engineering Problems" authored by Marshall and Pigford at the University of Delaware in 1947.

This is an excellent and focused book for graduate ChemE's. Lots of the problems are the types you would see in graduate transport and controls courses. Everything is written with ChemE problems in mind. It's not like other textbooks, like Kreyzig's, that simply put out a bunch of generic problems to solve; still, Kreyzig's textbook is an engineering math classic, and you should have it on-hand in case you need some extra explanations. It is certainly better than the text of Varma and Morbidelli, which tends to move off-topic quickly and answer several unnecessary problems.This text by Rice and Do is the best I've seen, but it is really hard to get a hold of. Good luck getting it, as it is certainly a good investment.

Although there are many picture books available about a parent in the military, what makes this unique is the very basic format, featuring one sentence per double-page spread, and the solemn, uncluttered illustrations clearly portraying the father’s actions. I bought this to share with my class for Veteran's Day. I also bought Hero Mom. The problem is with this book. It is printed upside down and backwards. Um, quality control, where are you? I took the jacket off, thinking that it was just the jacket put on wrong, but nope, the whole book is printed upside down and backwards.

Absolutely loved these books. We wrote a letter to our daughter on the inside and attached our pictures before we both deployed. Not many books like this for children but glad that this one is around.
